Staffing crisis forces "Pied a Terre" to ditch lunches. One of Londons longest -standing Michelin-starred restaurants is to close for lunch this weekend because of an acute staffing crisis in the hospitality industry.David Moore, the owner of Pied a Terre in Fitzrovia, said covid and furlough had played a part, but the staff shortage was firmly down to brexit. This, and the wetherspoons brexiteer chap wanting softer rules to allow europeans in, together with farmers not getting enough workers to pick the veg, leading to higher prices. The reality of the situation is coming to the fore, lets all enjoy the ride!

The solution is simple. Pay higher wages and offer training. Supply and demand.

Surely you want peoples wages to go up? Or is that a bad thing?

Why do brexiteers persist in this completely false argument that the EU will breakup.

It is nonsense.

The EU can move ahead without the UKs continued obstruction.

So its win-win? We get our sovereignty back and the EU gets to move forward with its own army and abolishing the veto for memberstates.

What is not to like?

Yes, good idea mate, but tell Boris, not me.If the elected government put the minimum wage up, then more people might be bothered to go and get a job , instead of doing just as well watching daytime tv!

And why is that such a bad thing? Seriously. What is so great about Scotland being part of the UK?

It makes almost zero difference to the average person in England if Scotland does decide to go its own way. There are certain strategic interests such as the nuclear bases and I guess that since Scotland would still have the Queen as head of state, our armed forces could still recruit but the country already has its own legal and education system so really, effectively in many ways already a separate country.

I am increasingly moving a position where by I look at all these threats about breaking up the UK and wondering what all the fuss is about?

If Scotland wants to join the EU then good luck to it. They voted in favour of remaining and I reckon they deserve another independence vote. Give it to them ASAP is my stance now.

Why would anybody on the left actually want the UK to remain together? Seriously?

I have to agree with you again mate, let the Scots go if they vote to, but again, tell Boris, let them vote again and soon, don"t put it on the burner!

Not quite sure I get your point. Both Wetherspoons and this Restaurant are free to pay whatever wages they want above the minimum wage. That is the issue. If you cannot get staff then it is because the conditions are not attractive enough.

Therefore improve them or continue not to be able to open.

Matov, with us both agreeing on workers rights to a better wage, does that make us both capitalists or socialists? Maybe we should start our own union !

But the point is, with no pesky eastern europeans to work after brexit, they are not attracting enough"local born an bred" people to work, as they might prefer to stay home with tv and getting up at mid day, I don"t blame them if they can get away with it! If the minimum wage was raised, to say £10 an hour, perhaps it would benefit these "locals", to get a job, and the brexiteer wetherspoons chap could attract home grown talent! They are obviously not paying enough, for "locals" to bother working, so raise the minimum wage so they have to! That is the job of hm gov, one Boris bunter!

It all depends what you'd call a higher wage? I'm assuming this restaurant in Fitzrovia is very high end so wages would be decent?
I read yesterday something along the same lines of a Restaurant in Beverly Hills who were struggling to hire waiters, although the owner claimed that waiters at this establishment could easily earn 120K a year, now that isn't chump change.

Vaccines actually are nothing to do with brexit, and the UK is now dependent on the EU for them anyway.

The UK, if it had remained, would probably have tried to block the recovery fund, and the China/EU deal to appease Biden.

With friends like Johnson, who needs enemies?

Taking back our waters is he? Well Johnson they are full of s**t, just like you are.

I didnít actually say it would breakup.

If the EU can move ahead without the UKs continued obstruction (?),
why canít the UK move ahead without the EUs continued obstruction

Serious question CP, as the vote is for the possible breakup of the Union, do you think we should all have a vote? Personally I think we should
