I spotted this sorry it's behind a paywall but basically Trump's ban on asylum is about to end and it looks like thousands are gathering on the border.

Keep on eye on this I expect if the impact is true it will make headlines.

"More than 2,000 people a day have been crossing the Rio Grande into Texas and arrivals are forecast to double with the end of pandemic-era restrictions that allowed US border officials to turn migrants away"

Scary numbers. I never really blame people for wanting a better life, but it's a shame that politics within a country becomes so fragmented and polarised that is presents opportunities rather than sensible policy.

Just to add to your hate boner, Trump sold out of his 0 digital trading cards in 12 hours, all 45,000.

I don't know why you guys don't just ignore him.....DeSantis wins the Republican nomination in my opinion.

What’s interesting is what the decision to do this may indicate. The money raised is nothing when compared to the ridicule he is suffering. That won’t deter his core base but it will all the others he needs. So why do it? It suggests to me he knows he is finished politically and is now concentrating on milking as many as he can, for as much as possible, while he can maintain the illusion he will stand.

DeSantis seems a shoe in. There are many things I don’t like about him, not least his approach on handling the pandemic, or his support for the “don’t say gay” movement, but he isn’t Trump. So there is still hope that if he becomes POTUS he will listen to advice and act responsibly.

In the meantime Trump’s shadow will loom over American politics even if he will be concentrating on self preservation.

I notice that Elon Musk has launched, then partially rowed back a ban of social media links to other platforms, as part of his latest move as a famed free speech absolutist - for himself not others. Comically he was in Qatar hanging with the likes of Kushner and Erdogan at the time. He's on his way to going full Kanye in terms of PR, closely followed by Tesla stock if he continues to look more interested in inane Tweet sprees than business.

I can't see him being Twitter CEO for much longer at this rate. It's easy to mock or criticise these platforms from the outside, but no doubt the realities hit home when you're tasked with with running it.

Criminal charges on the way for Trump?

Looks very much like it, the Capitol riot panel refers him for prosecution.

Recommends only. The Justice Department is the only place where prosecutions can actually be mounted. They have their own investigation underway with a Special Prosecutor on the case..

They do though say they have more than enough evidence to indict him which I expect will be made available to the SP.

The day draws closer, despite the constant cynicism heard here. No-one is above the law although the risks involved in charging him and the way some may react are obvious.

In the US 60% of people live paycheck to paycheck.

Meanwhile the Biden administration have spent about $3.8 trillion, far more in two years than any other administration in US history.

A disaster economically and a disaster on foreign policy, all predicted and it all happened.

That 60% figure has risen slightly since the pandemic but is neither new nor anything to do with current economic policy.

The USA.is not immune to the global economic situation but has actually weathered the storm. rather better than many. That doesn’t stop people blaming Biden for everything. Including you obviously.

That's because his administration is to blame both economically and on foreign policy.

The US is the biggest mover on the global economic situation. Biden came into office promising the exact opposite of what he has delivered.

A bigger incompetent liar would be hard to imagine.

Apparently the Twitter files reveal that the FBI paid Twitter over three million dollars between 2019 and early 2021, all while flagging the censorship of conservative voices and spreading misinformation and lies regarding Hunter Biden's laptop.

They literally interfered with a US election.

If the Republicans get in 2024 and control both houses there are going to be plenty of people connected to the last few years who are probably going to jail.

You keep talking about the American economy being in a terrible state under Biden but I'm not sure that's the case at all?

In terms of growth, unemployment, inflation etc the US are beyond all other G7 nations. And a damn site far beyond the the UK!

Thanks. Good to see common sense here.

Of course when all your “news” comes from people like Tucker Carlson and scrawny youths making videos in their basements and you never watch live TV, you don’t live in the real world. You live in a fantasy world where the elites are conspiring to defraud you, the POTUS is creating circumstances in which Putin can invade Ukraine and opening up the borders so he can harvest the votes of grateful immigrants.
