A tiny part of me feels sorry for the Lefties. I reckon loads of them find this lunancy as horrendous as the rest of us but they simply cannot do anything else other than play along with it. They are trapped by an orthodoxy of ideology that us on the Right cannot even begin to comprehend.

To be honest I don't have much sympathy for them when it comes to this and other areas where it involves children.

Why would the Chinese deliberately release a virus?
1. To prove a point that they can affect the world's economies. They have the ability to recover far quicker than the western world and can 'pick up the pieces' afterwards. Watch for selected distressed companies being picked up cheaply by them.
2. As an alternative option to undermine America. They hold zillions of US dollars in foreign currency reserves. They could dump that overnight and destroy the buying power of the US dollar. (Hence maybe Trump was right to try and bring back manufacturing to the home market).
3. To distract from their various actions around the world... Hong Kong, Indian border disputes, South China Sea island building programme, Muslim internment camps, Tibet...
Personally, I reckon the virus is man made; that's why we are finding it so hard to stop it as it doesn't fit with normal viruses. Normally as they mutate they weaken, yet we are being told that the variants are stronger than the original.
I hope I am wrong on all of the above.

If the Chinese wanted to demonstrate they could affect the world's economies they wouldn't do it this way. They can't "pick up the pieces" when the pieces have been destroyed. This damages them very badly and there would be much easier ways to do it. Not that I think they even need to actually do anything. Their power is well enough understood without grand gestures.

It's not in China's interest to undermine America. It's just too big a market for their manufactured products.

The pandemic may well have distracted attention from some of the things you mention but they still seem to get covered to me and quite frankly the Chinese don't really care that much. Whatever they do we are likely to have to come to terms with it. The lines of influence are being redrawn and the world will move on.

All the scientific analysis I have read on the virus indicates that it is natural. I know there are very clever Chinese scientists but it seems there are ways of telling if a virus is natural or not.

On the subject of China now that they probably feel like they have their man in the whitehouse who won't do sweet FA they have moved fighter jets submarines and ships into Taiwanese waters and air space. But its ok because Biden says nice things.

Your understanding of this, and the usual "jump on the bandwagon" contributions that follow yours, is really absurd.

Biden and his team have a plan. It's been talked about for months and isn't so different to what we and other countries have been doing. Social distancing, mask-wearing, testing, isolating the infected and close contacts and, of course, vaccinate as fast as humanly possible.

It has been scrutinised, discussed and supported by the media. Just ignored by Trump.

That's not the point of Biden making his remark is it?

He is warning people that there are no instant answers primarily because these things weren't done early enough. That the trajectory cannot be altered for some months is a direct consequence of the LACK of action and not because they are now doing the right things.

It seems that some people are determined to knife Biden in his first week and to claim justification because they feel that Trump was given the same treatment. It's complete nonsense. If that's the level of debate we are going to witness here now this will quickly become a very uninspiring and tedious place.

Trump deserved all he got and more. He did nothing other than lie constantly. Biden is being open and honest. He won't always succeed, especially when people try to obstruct him, but what he will do will genuinely be for the good of the country and all its people.

LOL. Yeah... this plan?

Frankly, China should not be allowed anywhere near critical national infrastructure. You flippantly comment that there's no reason why Chinese foreign investment shouldn't be allowed. I agree, in extremely limited circumstances. Unlike you, I'm under no illusion that when we get to companies like Huawei and ....cough.... CEFC China Energy Co...

(oh... an energy company you say? NI HAO! [Link]

...that these are little more than CCP fronts designed to exert actual state control over another country. You have to be asbsolutely f***ing insane to permit legislation..

(or indeed XO via "Presidential overreach"... or is that only when Trump did it?

[Link] )

..that enables these foreign actors any control levers to your vital industries and infrastructure.

You've really swallowed the Kool-aid, haven't you? I've made my views known on Biden as the candidate. You will excuse me for not dabbing at your crocodile tears at the sheer injustice of not permitting Biden a free pass. He'll be getting enough of that with his new branch of government: the press.

You will see, readers, likely a lot of "provenance prejudice" in the coming months and years - haughtily disregarding sources of information that are not from a Biden-pandering MSM. "Oh, it's fringe", "Oh, you believe the Russian-backed article?", "Oh, they're partisan!" "They hate the president, they call him Joe Briben!".

The Biden-fawning press must no longer control the political agenda: I encourage everyone to look to other sources of information to counter-balance their narrative. If you're reading your news from exclusively one source, you're not doing it right.

Who'd have thought it

‘Dark Money’ Helped Pave Joe Biden’s Path to the White House

Biden’s winning campaign was backed by $145 million in so-called dark money donations, a type of fundraising Democrats have decried for years.

That amount of dark money dwarfs the $28.4 million spent on behalf of his rival, former President Donald Trump. And it tops the previous record of $113 million in anonymous donations backing Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in 2012.

Democrats have said they want to ban dark money as uniquely corrupting, since it allows supporters to quietly back a candidate without scrutiny. Yet in their effort to defeat Trump in 2020, they embraced it.

A Biden spokesman didn’t respond to attempts to seek comment.

Did you actually read what I wrote or just jump in again to re-write your prejudice?

I explained what seems to be Biden's plan, which has nothing at all to do with the remark you referenced.

I also explained that it's down to each country to ensure oversight. Provided that is done and they are satisfied that no security issues exist then no country, China included, should be excluded from bidding for contracts. That oversight is the key.

I am neither crying any crocodile tears than I am giving Biden a free pass. Nor indeed will the media. I, and they, will judge him in exactly the same way as any other President is judged. On what he says and does. That was, despite your and others views on here, how Trump was always treated. Trump was just consistently aggressive, divisive and untruthful. Unsurprisingly he got a consistently critical response. If Biden behaves in the same way so will he.

Of course you need to mix up your news sources. That applies to you just as much as to anyone else. The important thing though is to make sure they really are news sources. Ones that are subjected to editorial and legal oversight. Unfortunately in today's internet age, it's very easy to construct something which looks authentic but is really just propaganda. It's also unfortunately true that there seem to be many on the right who cannot differentiate between real news and fake news, encouraged as they have been to mistrust the MSM. You won't find many if any, fake sites promoting left-wing views but loads who feed endless right-wing propaganda to willing recipients. It's a really serious problem these days.

If that was addressed to your best mate here then I would have to agree as it's an accurate, if abusive, summary of his contributions.

But addressed to me it is just another of your regular ad hominem which as it adds nothing to the debate is your usual waste of time.
