I'd be surprised if the Everton vacancy made much difference to our chances of getting Nuno, in so far as they would be slim enough anyway. I cannot fathom why he'd want to take the step down that we represent from what he had at Wolves in terms of backing and (and this is the true lifeblood of managers) the opportunity to do better than the previous season for at least two years if not three, including taking the club to different levels of football quickly (Championship, Premier League and then Europe in wolves case). We offer none of this.

If I were interviewing Nuno I'd start by asking him to explain his interest in the post. We need someone with a three year plan to make us both different and better, and the new man has absolutely got to commit to the duration. Those three years might involve some short term pain for longer term gain, which ain't going to be fun, and even if it all goes swimmingly the best end result is scraping into the top ten, maybe a one off place in some Europa conference preliminary qualifying round that starts before the fa Cup final. Nunos already done better than that, why would he sign up for less at best?

I'd be happy to have him, but I'd be f***ing suspicious too.

You can't deny that the likes of Mount, James, Gilmour, Tomori, Abraham all benefited from his time as manager.

With Tuchels success then could be in for a long wait going back there and we are not exactly fierce rivals of theirs that would put him off managing us.

Chelsea's youth development has been on a different planet to ours. They loan their prospects to top tier and second tier sides across Europe. Where they shine. We loan ours to low league teams. Where they still struggle.

You may credit Lampard but for me the jury is very much out. I'm not down on Lampard, just think he'd be unlikely to suit us right now. Or he is at least a high risk choice
