The more I think about it, the more I struggle to understand how we get a good manager on board when there's this uncertainty about Textor.

I know Textor seemed to walk back some comments, but it also seems clear there is some kind of interest there.

I wonder if this is the key problem slowing us down (even by our famously cautious standards).

Why would Favre, for example, sign up unless budgets are clear and real? How can they be if we are about to have a significant new investor?

Why/where is it clear there is some interest there? Unless I missed something one journo/outlet came up with a story that there was a takeover on the horizon and the person they said it was came out and completely refuted it.

9 times out of 10 the simplest answer is the correct one. We havnt appointed yet because there are lots of options available to would be managers and until one or some of them are taken off the table then all the dominoes won't fall into place.

The Mail reported last night that we are close to appointing Favre. Let's hope it proves to be the case and we can bring this leaden charade to an end and move onto the far more inspiring task of renewing Connor Wickham's contract.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

See my post about the situation at Everton immediately above.

For all that their fans like to pretend that Everton is a big club, they aren't. And for all that fans like to pretend that money is the only thing that's attractive about a job, it's not. The Benitez/Everton marriage is probably driven by a). Benitez is about the only thing vaguely resembling a big name that Everton could attract right now. This time around, Ancelotti-status candidates aren't even being mentioned. b). Benitez is unemployed, so he'll come relatively cheap (no compensation involved, etc.). And Everton DON'T have money to burn because of their awful Financial Fair Play situation. c). Benitez is approaching the end of his career and he lives in Liverpool. His family is there. So a reasonable offer may well suit all parties for personal as well as football reasons. Let's face it, would Moshiri really even be talking to a former Liverpool manager (and who'd openly taken the piss out of Everton in the past at that) if he wasn't somewhat desperate? Short of mass protests from the fans at Goodison, it's hard not to see Benitez at Everton.

That being the case, I'm really not worried about Everton being a competitor for Favre. If he's Parrish's choice and we don't get him, I doubt the reason will be he's going to Everton (unless he's a closet Beatles fan who yearns to live in Liverpool). My guess is that we've already made or will soon make Favre an offer. If he accepts it, job done.

Spurs are a mess. Kane wants to go (and probably will) and they're clearly in transition. Although on a less desperate scale than ours, not entirely unlike Palace. Spurs is essentially a rebuild job. Like Everton, no top names seem to be mooted as in the running. If they want Potter, they'll probably get him but the fact that a Brighton manager with no history of real success is what they can attract speaks volumes about the state of Spurs right now. Plus, you have to wonder how many (if any) top bosses would want to work for Levy. Personally, I think Klinsmann is a dark horse for the job.

The loser in this game of musical chairs is Nuno who priced himself out of the Palace job assuming Everton had more money and he'd walk in there, failing entirely to do his due diligence and understand Everton's presently poor financial situation. Result: he didn't get that job either. And presently, Spurs don't seem interested in him, arguably for similar reasons.

I see no reason Favre shouldn't come to Palace if he wants to. I can also see Nuno backing down and coming to Parrish cap in hand, willing to renegotiate which, if nothing else, would give us a choice. In short, Everton's financial issues plus Spurs rebuild and unattractive chairman probably make us a fairly appealing job for a manager right now. Credit to Parish for trying to get the right manager, rather than the first manager to come along.

Good post, although while Spurs have the Kane exit, we have Zaha.

Would Wilf want to stay with Favre in charge? I am not sure it matters who is the boss for that to make any difference.

A good point you make is that clubs are in a mess everywhere, partly thanks to Covid. Even the so called big clubs like Everton. Relative to others, Parish has always sought to run the place on sound and sustainable fiscal grounds meaning long term security if a manager can deliver on the pitch. Roy was in charge for 4 seasons and only left (I think?) through mutual agreement. That is a reasonable spell in this division.

The problem, as others have alluded to, is how a club with relatively limited income and capital (and thus hampered by FFP) can afford the resources somebody like Favre would need to do his part effectively in our proposed transition. It's a big task. However, with rumours of financial shenanigans behind the scenes, perhaps the correct word is not "problem" but "question"?

The interviews would have laid bear exactly what CPFC are doing and how they will fund it. That both Favre and Nuno have come away impressed by what they heard, may be the most positive news to come out of the interview process.

Good post- thats my worry too. Can Parish really get a manager who's stock is still high or a high calibre manager to buy into the 'project' that is Crystal Palace. We are certainly at the bottom of the pile in terms of probably picking over the left overs of Everton and Spurs. Palace is a big risk for any manager with pedigree, the other worry is we get someone decent in like Favre and then they jack it in when they realise the job theyve got on and the restrictions ala Pulis and Big Sam. However thats a worry for another day I suppose just getting a bloomin manager would be a start. I just hope we are able to re-visit previous candidates if Favre falls at the last hurdle like NES. Although I have to say I still have faith in Stevie P but he is cutting it fine!

My hunch is he wants/is considering to buy our current Americans out. The Athletic also reported an interest and I think The Athletic is a decent media outlet.

The bottom line is these stories exist and we know the Americans are willing sellers. That is problematic.

I'm sure there is some sort of interest. The question is, how advanced is it?

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Even if there is something to the Texler story it really can't be very advanced. Steve has admitted himself that we had discussions with NES. If the supposed Texler takeover was even being discussed then it was not sufficiently along the line to have prevented us talking to NES. If it has only come to light after the NES talks it can only be in the very initial stages, as has been reported (if true) Texler is trying to find others to buy onto his consortium and that is not the basis for us to have suspended a manager search. Alternative, and by far the most likely is its a journo doing 2+2=5 and there is no substance to it.

well the betting is as quiet as this thread atm, Favre's long odds on with the bookmakers but 50:50 (evens) with the betting exchanges - this could suggest a yes or no moment is not far off.
