Surely if a company leaves here to go to Romania or any other european country , to gain access to the e.u market, and as you say pay less for the workforce, then we are in big trouble. Every business wants maximum profit, and if that"s in the e.u, paying less wages for entry in to the biggest trade block, then more will follow. It makes sense to me if you are a business owner-even if it"s getting cheap labour, but in a different country where the cost of living is also a lot cheaper.

Presumably Bangladeshi sweat shops are acceptable then, and no one on here will/ have ever criticise them

There may be an argument for temporary work permits.....which was always possible.

I didn't really want to makes these arguments but business needs are one thing....but we first have a duty to the youth and general worker of this nation before anyone else's....and that should be the case in every country.

We have had decades of recruitment attitudes that have directly ignored that....and that's been allowed to happen.

If English farm pickers are lazy it's because the culture has allowed for that.....if the will is there the culture can be changed.

There is a scheme for temporary work permits for farm workers (Volag Scheme) has been in existence for years. Usually valid from April -October.

Wasn"t contradicting you mate, just saying as the thread is about another nail in the remainer coffin, so to speak. If our business goes to Romania, not because of a sweat shop culture but just because things are cheaper, including wages, then its actually god for europe and more a nail in the brexit argument.I can only see business owners going where they make most profit, if thats Romania or indeed Bangladesh to the sweat shops its rather worrying for british jobs.

As I have said many times on here, the contracts given to EE farm workers are nothing more than slave Labour ( I have seen them). Now if people are happy to support slave Labour so be it.
My son, who is not a scrote , applied for farm work last year having lost his job, but was not considered as was not prepared to live,on site, in a s*** caravan shared with complete strangers.

Good post and the danger of broad brush. Of course we have plenty of good ready made home workers who will put in the hours and effort. However if you were a farmer operating on the tightest of margins what would you do? And is your son a victim of cheap imported semi slave labour or the pandemic?

Best of luck to your son. I have so far lost work 5 times in my life for reasons that had nothing to do with me. It is not good.

Spiders son is now a football scout and i"m hoping to be his agent-25% seems reasonable to me. I did see on tv a few months back a british farmer, saying that he would love to employ local british workers, and has done, but for some reason they don"t turn up for duty on a saturday morning, his words!

If any Nigerian princes send you emails asking for donations to regain their kingdom.....delete....or conversely believe that one too.

And I am sure you can’t see the difference between a country that is obliged to work to the EU standards so many on here revile and Bangladesh where, apparently:

The ruling Awami League (AL) has consolidated political power through sustained harassment of the opposition and those perceived to be allied with it, as well as of critical media and voices in civil society. Corruption is a serious problem, and anticorruption efforts have been weakened by politicized enforcement. Due process guarantees are poorly upheld and security forces carry out a range of human right abuses with near impunity.

Romania has much higher educational standards. It is serious competition for all European countries and should not be confused with Least Developed Countries.

So Romania don’t have sweat shops, that’s good to know
