Will you two (Sterling & Orange 1290) please take your personal sniping in to Private Messages if you wish to continue.

You bore the pants off everyone else on the boards, and will both shortly end up with cards if you ignore this request!

My understanding is that many of the issues you state at the beginning were amongst the Afghan police, not their Army.

With, and again always happy to be schooled if I am wrong, the Army being paid directly by the US.

This supposed total collapse narrative makes little sense on so many levels but I am more than willing to be convinced otherwise.

Loads of videos on youtube of the ana stoned off their nut when out on patrol with the british army.

I honestly dont know who was paying the ana but it wasnt trickling down to the front line troops.
For the most part before the collapse they hadnt been paid in 2 months

Well it looks like they are going to die without firing a shot back by the looks of it.

There hadn't been a post for two hours and who the hell is Sterling?

If that's how you are going to be I'll save you the bother and bugger off for a while.

As I said, happy to be educated but I am not seeing any evidence of this Army collapse. In fact, barely seeing anything at all which makes me wonder if the ANA were even given orders to oppose the advance.

Countries, even ones as f***ed up as Afghanistan, do not collapse like that. Armies with command structures, do not just melt away into seemingly nothing.

More than willing to concede that I can be perhaps a tad paranoid but this entire scenario does not add up in any rational or logical way.

It would be interesting to know what proportion of the 'trillion dollars' actually went to the Afghan army.

How about 10%.........

There must have been so much going on, wouldn't be surprised at all if the taliban got hold of some of it, probably financed the whole show.

Saw something today that claimed the training the ANA received was predicated on having a certain level of air support on tap.

But that over the last couple of months almost all of the maintenance support for the Afghan Airforce was withdrawn meaning that the army could no longer rely on it.

Now I am sad geek who studies quite a lot of military/conflict history and the one thing I KNOW is that logistics is everything. Sure, individual courage and drive can win battles but it's your rear echelon operations that win the wars.

And that the way political control is exercised over how a military performs is primarily about how it handles the crucial importance of bullets, bandages and beans.

I am beginning to suspect that the Afghan Army have been set up for this fall.

Most of it probably went back to US contractors, or lots of nods and winks. Didn't the US spend $800 million on their embassy there. I mean how on earth can it possibly cost that much.

It does not cost that much. But over-paying contractors by way of bribing Government figures....

As old a trick as they come. And how almost all Western Governments bribe all over the world.

No doubt, the same with overseas aid. All about greasing the right palms.
