Usually think you’re pretty spot on with your Westminster posts but think you’re wildly wrong with this one for two reasons.

Firstly, I think you’ve misjudged just how f*cking angry the public are about this. Even those not all that political. CCHQ have been fielding calls all day from members revoking their membership having lost complete faith in Johnson. A cursory glance at Twitter shows that this anger also transcends any political allegiances.

Secondly, it’s clear there is a *lot* more to come on this. Even tonight there’s a story that The Telegraph have names of everyone who attended a party that Carrie hosted at the number 10 flat on another occasion during lockdown. There’s a drip, drip, drip effect being deployed here which seems to be designed to bury Johnson once and for all.

Is it him they are actually after - or has she stuck her oar in once to often?

It’s probably the pair of them! Carrie seems to have made a few enemies since they moved in to Number 10. Dominic Cummings certainly made no secret of what he thought about her.

I appreciate that I can read too much into these things but it would not surprise me in the slightest if this might be a way of the Tory machine pushing her to one side, perhaps even with the tactile agreement of Boris in a kind of 'who will rid me of this tiresome Priest' fashion.

She is toxic. And a massive political liability given how much she appears to be behind a lot of the woke BS.

With Johnson re-inventing himself as a far more 'hang'em high' Tory in 2022.

The anger is definitely real but so what? It will pass before the next election. People can be as angry as they want but outside of a mass resignation/defection of MP's, then there is no way of this justified ire manifesting itself in any kind of meaningful way.

This is the point of what happened in the 2019 GE and the utter disaster that was the Labour second referendum policy. It gifted Johnson an effective dictatorship.

People can rant and rave but it's literally, at least at the moment, pissing in the wind. A seasonal story that will be barely remembered.

But perhaps you are right. There are local elections in May 2022. Only then will we be able to get a serious overview of how much damage it might have done.

It's a massive distraction from the good things such as the vaccine roll out, economy doing better than most and others.

The frequent use of double speak rather than simply admitting mistakes is not acceptable, mistakes happen all the time.

At some point the list of attendees at Downing St at that
" event " will be leaked.

Cummings has a long reach a year after being kicked out.

Everyone loves a bit on intrigue and the theory that the video was leaked by the Shunak camp is interesting.

We will now go into a " when is a party not a party ". IF it's BYO wine and cheese blah blah blah.

What a mess.

Johnson out

An inquiry has to be made as to how she could look so cute doing the initial interview on stage, cutsey and giggling, and so plain Jane today resigning! I know she"s been up all night(nothing to do with me, I was at Susannas)- but we need a law to make ladies either wear make up full time, or not at all! Its not fair on us , we never know which one we wake up to in the morning, glamour puss or plain Jane!

Good point well made, an issue which is above party divides and in the public interest. Tearful because she lost her job, no sympathy

Any legal eagles on here who can shed any light on why the Met have ruled out investigating this one?

Seems bizarre how this "won't investigate retrospective crime" line is being repeatedly used, when all crime is surely retrospective!!

The case is going to do nothing to help with public disquiet towards the Met who have had a stinker of a year.

So they had a party during lockdown, so what, who can honestly say they have adhered to every lock down rule. Very few at a guess. The Police won't take retrospective action, and this is an attempt to try and pull a veil over how pathetic Labour and Starmer have been over the last 18 months or so. What with the SNP calling for his head, when let's not forget one of their own travelled across the country twice when infected, against lock down rules and got away Scot free, excuse the pun.

The only thing this shows is how weak the rules are regarding the press and media, it would be more interesting to find out how many clandestine Xmas parties were held in these industries and see how righteous they are to grass each other up.

How many times will this mantra be used

The truth is we had a good start but didn’t follow through

The UK has now slipped to 12th in a European league table of Covid vaccination rates compiled by the data agency Statista, with 137 doses administered for every 100 people as of October 3.

Iceland tops the table with a rate of 161, with Malta (159) second and Portugal (156) third.

Its a disgrace, they fine students 10k, then let these off with ample evidence with one of the most cctv-sign in/out places in the country!Cressie could prove her worth with Joe public by getting convictions and fines for the pot, but alas she has bottled it!

That is the tragic dichotomy of British politics. The Left have chosen to die on the hill of the 'Trans' issue for reasons that make no rational sense.

We need Farage to get back into the ring. If he decides to take over the Reform Party then it could be fire-works.

Personally I think a media figure like Neil Oliver has a better chance with that stuff. He doesn't have the same Tory boy baggage that Farage has.

He loves the country and its history, is strong on libertarianism and against identity politics....and is dismayed by the power given to and now abused by the alphabets.

[Link]

I respect it but I think it's far too late myself. The fight against identity politics was lost decades ago and the majority waking up to that doesn't really change where power sits.

I think they have to start playing their own identity politics....but I realise that this isn't how people want to think...because they are too nice for their own good.

A nice guy like Neil Oliver would kind of represent that I think.....I would love him to succeed and prove me wrong.....because I'm arrogant enough as it is.
