But the politics/optics of how this story has panned out, that is beyond intriguing. And the releasing of that footage, that is the strangest part of it all. Breaks all kinds of unwritten rules in how the game is played.

If ITV have knowingly done it then it can only have been on the understanding, from the very top of the Tory Party, that it would not impact on their relationship with Number 10. An absolute diversion tactic.

This might explain it, if it’s a push from Rishi for Boris’ position to become untenable while he is getting hammered in the polls.

Who honestly knows? But there is no way that footage gets released by any kind of credible/mainstream media organisation without having the nod that it will not damage their relationship with Number 10.

'Off the Record' exists for reasons, both good and bad. The mainstream Media especially rely on it for all kinds and would not knowingly damage the convention. Stratton was offered up as a sacrifice. She is not a politician, she probably did not even attend the meetings/parties in question. And will resurface with a new job in the New Year.

There is a genuine public interest story here, without a shadow of a doubt. But her joking around like that ain't it. Which is why the fact that it is being given so much coverage is the key to understanding, as far as I am concerned, that this is being stage-managed to the ummth degree.

None of us are really surprised are we.

The lot at the top get to bend and manipulate rules most of the time and it's always been that way. It's not right but normally they get away with it because it's amongst themselves.

It's very obvious that the knifes are out for the Turkish Blonde.

Johnson is awful but I don't want Starmer or any of those CRT nutters anywhere near government.

Can't even call a woman a woman.

At least Johnson can describe what he's shagging.

Go on then CP, explain how YOUR life can be different. I keep reading about us keep taking it up the rectum. What specific changes need to be made. Nothing about tax or 47 billion ppe or your philanthropic utopia of equalling up wealth as that hasn't and never will happen
Just general changes that need to happen to make YOUR life better. I doubt that there are many tbh. Maybe free skol but would you be happy.
Tax always rises and there are always losers and winners, rich and poor etc etc infinitum.

Lets just let them take our £47 thousand million mate, they probably deserve it more than us anyway, and lets face it, we are lucky to be on the same planet as them, they are a lot brighter than us, they are our superiors after all!,

How did his press secretary know about it but he didn't?

The bit in bold is genuinely funny - your line must be at assaulting members of your family or something, f*ck me.

Perhaps the member for Medway as at the party himself!

An inquiry has to be made as to how she could look so cute doing the initial interview on stage, cutsey and giggling, and so plain Jane today resigning! I know she"s been up all night(nothing to do with me, I was at Susannas)- but we need a law to make ladies either wear make up full time, or not at all! Its not fair on us , we never know which one we wake up to in the morning, glamour puss or plain Jane!

This story is chip paper by Monday. And I am beginning to suspect that it has been deliberately staged.

They would have known about the story around the party knocking around for a while. And would have known it would eventually emerge.

So you have it break in the 48 hours before you make a major announcement about Covid restrictions with what we are seeing now which is a lock-down light. The narrative changes straight away. A story about a Christmas Party the year before has a relevance that lasts as long as the Christmas of the following year but come December 26th? Nah. Froth.

It's hardly going to help the Tories and is an utter disgrace by any reasoned analysis, but this is managed damage limitation going on.

Yup.

That is the tragic dichotomy of British politics. The Left have chosen to die on the hill of the 'Trans' issue for reasons that make no rational sense.

We need Farage to get back into the ring. If he decides to take over the Reform Party then it could be fire-works.

Is this the same Nigel Farage that has stood for election as an MP and lost 7 times?

It might work in the lefts favour, as Dan said, Nige would never get elected but would split the CONS vote, that would be real leveling up in politics.

Usually think you’re pretty spot on with your Westminster posts but think you’re wildly wrong with this one for two reasons.

Firstly, I think you’ve misjudged just how f*cking angry the public are about this. Even those not all that political. CCHQ have been fielding calls all day from members revoking their membership having lost complete faith in Johnson. A cursory glance at Twitter shows that this anger also transcends any political allegiances.

Secondly, it’s clear there is a *lot* more to come on this. Even tonight there’s a story that The Telegraph have names of everyone who attended a party that Carrie hosted at the number 10 flat on another occasion during lockdown. There’s a drip, drip, drip effect being deployed here which seems to be designed to bury Johnson once and for all.
