Again I refer to the land bridges that came and went thousands of years ago when glaciers formed and then receded. Was that due to industrialisation 10,000 to 6,000 BC?

All that mammoth methane perhaps

No it hasn't. Over the past 20 years or so all our politicians have become increasingly aware that the threat from man made climate change is real and represents the most serious threat we have ever faced.

What I've said about selection within the Tory party is just factually true.

Climate change is just one issue and it was done essentially for other considerations.

They have access to the science in ways which we don't.

If there was ever an issue that demanded a global response it's this one. Unless we tackle it together the future for those that follow looks so bleak that there may not even be one.

You posted yesterday that "'A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in". Unusually for you it's completely true and is entirely apposite when considering how we must respond to climate change.

Current immigration has no direct bearing on this, but if we don't succeed in conquering global warming we are going to see a lot more as a consequence.

No politician, of whatever party, can claim to be truly serving their people if they put short term interests above the need to deal with climate change. Which is why the trend to populism and the dumbing down of politics which follows, is so dangerously inappropriate at this time more than any.

Your constant attacks on the WEF and globalism are not just malicious misrepresentations, they are part of a larger effort by the right to sow doubts and a lack of trust in governments, NGOs and other concerned stakeholders, when we need them to succeed more than ever.

Have you ever stopped to consider who is growing the seed that you sow? You often ask people to "follow the money". Do so yourself.

Supporting other countries to deal with climate change is not an alternative to us providing support to our own sick, needy and vulnerable. We must do both and the rest of us must shoulder the costs. Us old men need to plant some trees!

I do find it somewhat amusing to read you attempting to turn that old saying into some kind of defence of what our western elites have done.

Firstly, whatever someone thinks as to 'climate change', all this was done by themselves. The vast majority of common men and women have no say or part is what resources are used and by whom. The idea that the same types of people who feck things up are also those that solve them takes some planting of faith indeed.

Secondly, that saying is used to refer to the economic situation that our elites have given both western youth and the unborn....this is no small matter, it is generational debt. They will have to pay in lifestyle levels for the pure selfishness of a previous generation. How you can ignore this and focus upon 'climate' action as some kind of positive when it again mostly involves the least responsible suffering. It is, in my view, you planting a fantasy take instead of trees.

This recession will be painful. Those selfishly going on, or threatening, strikes at this time disgust me. As do those making stupid protests which disrupt the lives of others. We need to face this together, work hard and accept less. Playing blame games produces nothing but anger and hot air and we already have more than enough of both.

A bit easy for you to say isn't it. You have written many times on this site that you have run successful companies and done well for yourself and are a landlord of several houses and two house incomes.....now I don't criticise your success. (other than perhaps the marketing industry in general) and hard work deserves reward.

However, what I will say is that it's a bit easy to talk of tighting belts when your personal belt has such copious space. Some might suggest that if you had to choose between eating and heating that your attitude towards these matters would be far less sympathetic.....and rightly so.

Are you suggesting globalisation is some code word for anti semitic theories.

It is a word and does not belong to any political group.

To understand anti semitic tropes we probably need to ask Messrs Corbyn , Burgon and their fellow travellers.

I saw this a couple of days ago but didn't bother to post it, but when looking for this again online noticed that it was relegated mid way down the page.
Top of the page was threads claiming that China's actual emmissions were down 8%?
My take is that it is an overplayed scam, but I'll still continue to rinse out & recycle my tuna cans.

Ah, a climate change denier.

The changes you refer to occurred over very long geological periods.

The current changes are unprecedented in their speed. A few hundred years is half a blink in geological terms.

Previous climate changes of the extent currently experienced triggered mass extinctions; but over eons. The current crisis will cause widespread devastation before the end of this century.

We will be dead. My kids will be dead. But their kids will not. But it is the transition to that state that will be (and is being) felt by us all. The potential rise in sea level of, say, a meter will flood huge, fertile areas of much of the planet, including the Benelux nations from whom we get a great deal of our fresh produce, and the Ganges and Niger deltas. In the latter resides and depend for their food many, many millions of people. They will die or migrate. Many will seek a better life in the West. To which Western nation do you think Nigerians and Bangladeshis have the closest connection?

Accordingly, this is not some theory of the earth altering orbit trajectory and colliding with the sun in 4 billion years or polar reversal or Yellowstone erupting. This is effectively imminent and, at some date not that far away and quite possibly in our lifetime, irreversible.

I have to say, Ian Blackford has joint tied with bpotd, after richi rich spent 2 mins saying he was at cop and how Labour pms previously didn't attend, although climate change obvs wasn't an issue back then , Ian stood up and ssid, I thank the pm for his last minute decision to attend cop, classic

Not sure who this is aimed at. However the left usually see this term as referring to international trade bodies, NATO, the UN, IMF etc.

The populist alt right use the term in that way but also in others.

I always find this sort of chirp baffling

What you're ignoring, either deliberately or otherwise, is the length of time that change took. No reasonable individual is saying that the planet doesn't have natural warming and cooling cycles. It's the speed of change which is the issue, and belching out trillions of tons of warming gases doesn't exactly help to slow things down.

Besides, in some ways the science is irrelevant. Finding ways to produce energy and growth that don't involve irreversibly destroying nature and polluting anything and everything we can think of is a bit of a no brainer, really.
