The rouble 'best performing currency in the world 2022' - Bloomberg.

Things will be hard for a while but there is no reason why they will miss the west in the long term.

Infinite natural resources, self-sufficiency in energy and food, the best s*x workers, Russia is virtually debt-free.

Imagine if they had Rishi Sunak or Bungle then they would worry.

The west has no backbone and is just a pile of debt, Putin has read this correctly, at our present rate we will probably end up asking Putin for a loan.

What does Russia actually lose in being sanctioned? Zilch.

Who cares about oligarchs and seized yachts, mastercard and ruinous interest rates.

All of this. And yet we are told that sanctions will work, all the while still buying the Russian gas and giving the Ukrainians weapons that merely delay the outcome. With a huge crisis not far off now caused by a worldwide wheat shortage, directly linked to this current f*** up.

This mayhem is deliberate. No other narrative makes sense.

How can the Russian currency be stronger against the dollar than it was when the war started? How on earth does that work out in light of these so called terrible sanctions being imposed. All that has happened is a couple of yachts have been seized from people who no doubt stole the money in the first place from the Russian people. We are actually punishing Russian criminals for them.

This is all utterly insane. And brought to us by the same people who invaded Iraq and cause mass destabilisation, who then attacked Libya and caused mass destabilisation, who then attempted similar in Syria and are now, via this war, about to create utter mayhem in dozens of countries that depend on the wheat not being exported from both Ukraine and Russia.

Nobody in Russia is going to go hungry. Nobody in Russia is going to go cold. And Russia is getting richer.

And yet people want to tell me this all makes perfect sense and thank goodness Joe Biden is the leader of the West as opposed to Donald Trump?

The US gave the Ukraine....one of the most corrupt countries 54 billion with little if any strings attached on oversight.

Basically to prolong this war....Back in March the Ukraine were looking to negotiate and then our leaders went over there.

Both US parties are for war....11 Republicans and no Democrats voted against it....lip service, there are words and then there are actions.

Clown world.

Clown world indeed. 54 billion. That is a staggering amount of money. And for what? Not on infrastructure, merely looking to extend a war that is going to ensure revolutions and mayhem in dozens, possibly more, countries who are already in the brown stuff as matters stand.

And also why the lack of actual combat footage? We see shelled towns, we see the occasional drone footage of successful strikes but very little actual fighting.

We have the Left in the West cheering on a monocultural nation-state where its most celebrated fighters are literal Neo-Nazis whilst the Right cheer on a multicultural Russian federation where its most celebrated fighters are Muslims.

Nothing makes sense about any of it.

Idiocracy.

It's true, there are elements on both left and right who think that they have sides in this war when the realities are off centre. I care about the European aspect but this is an eastern European border war that empires have turned into a power struggle.

I'd just like people not to go hungry and be able to pay their bills. This is not my hill to die on anyway.....those that want to fight should be buying a plane ticket.

And now they are looking to drag the Polish into it.

He: They occupied this territory. Under what pretext? There are no Banderites here. I am Russian. I was born in Yakutia.

She: We want to show what people here want.

He: I want to live in Ukraine

It will become far more dangerous if the Poles become actively involved.

Russia view part of Ukraine as basically Russia, which is why most of its cities are still standing.

I'd imagine people behind the scenes aren't totally crazy and understand the history between Russia and Poland.

Then again, I didn't think they were so stupid as to get us to this point.

Of course, it's not to prolong the war! That's more recycled Russian propaganda. No-one wants to prolong a war, but when continuing to fight remains the least bad option, you fight.

It's to help a free country defend itself against an aggressor, and at the same time to stop that aggressor marching ever closer towards us and triggering the unlimited response that the membership of Nato guarantees.

If there was no mood in Ukraine to continue to resist, you could make such an argument. Whilst there is, providing them the means to do is both a moral, and tactical, imperative.

Ukraine is ready to negotiate, but on its terms. They are not ready to surrender, or trust the word of Putin. They need cast iron guarantees, and they will have to be forced out of Putin.

That both sides of American politics accept this ought to tell you something. No party is "for" war. They know Ukraine didn't want, or start, this one. The only ones "for" war are Putin and his cronies.

After reading that establishment take I need a drink.

I've been buying a lot of whisky recently.....get it in while the prices aren't sky high chaps (not in place of prep stuff though).....it's going to be rough.

82% of Ukrainians do not support any territorial concessions to Russia.

And who can blame them after what they have been through.

But it means endless conflict, you can't stop Russian speaking people wanting to be Russian.

It just looks insoluble.

They could have a referendum in the disputed regions. They could have local legislatures with power sharing in those regions. They could have a neutral party oversee a Ukrainian wide referendum. There are plenty of ways it could be solved. Russian speaking does not really define the nationality here either. It's not like Basque speaking or something. Russia had an empire and The Soviet Union. It's a bit like saying every English speaker can be English if they feel like it any time. I know some people do act like that - it isn't quite the reality, however.
