The convict PM is now saying that this scheme will not start soon and there will be legal challenges.

We should cut a deal with Rwanda to send our convicts there, starting with Johnson.

Stupid, illegal, wantonly cruel, this could only be the conservative government deflecting from its disastrous running of the cost of living crisis engineered by themselves.

What a pathetic figure Johnson cuts, our first officially criminal Prime Minister.

Fortunately it looks very unlikely it will fly.

Denmark, that will be the EU Denmark have been doing it for sometime. Boris is hardly the first criminal PM, surely the Labour Blair has that msntel

If any do get sent to Rwanda they look like having good accommodation heath services etc.

It looks like a good break after their struggles they need it.

And they are free to come and go - so we will be seeing them soon after, refreshed after their return trip from Rwanda.

Everyone needs a spot of leave after-all.

So if Rwanda is so good, they don’t need to come here, right? Mark my words, many African “asylum seekers” will now claim to be Rwandan in an attempt to not being sent there.
This is an attempt to stop the people smugglers, surely no one on here can say this is a bad thing

You might want to check the definition of convict, it would at least make your posts accurate in form albeit still silly in content

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Bringing Denmark into the discussion, pesky facts again

Did Johnson say this would be applied to all arrivals sine Jan 1st 2022?

But isn't one option a return to your country of origin?

They would end up in Rwanda either way, wouldn't they?

They will claim they face persecution etc etc yawn yawn in Rwanda

Only an option for Africans, not East Europeans or Iranians/ Iraqis

The point of the scheme is deterrent

Doesn't resemble it eh?

It's heading in that direction. Rwanda needs money and more workforce, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

It's a deterrent first and foremost.

Does this address Britain's bigger infrastructure and resource problems? No.

It doesn't have any similarities at all! There has been talk about offshore processing for some time, but where to do it has always been the problem. This seems like a very expensive compromise to me, and the more I look, the more it looks like a convenient political smokescreen than anything real.

You wanted to dump people in some imaginary, unoccupied space where they could build things on their own. This is pretty unrealistic. Yours was nuts.

The best this could be is a deterrent, but I doubt it will be. Unless it actually starts to happen, people won't be deterred and if it does, they will still arrive, but instead of surrendering will try to disappear, thus demanding huge resources to stop them doing so, and detecting them if they manage it.

Mind you, not being able to count them might suit the government. Out of sight, out of mind! Maybe that's the real purpose! Get this off the front pages.

Rwanda is beautiful country with fantastic wild life. Kigali is a modern city. There may be some reservations about authoritarianism.

However! This smacks of "oven cooked" "world beating" policy.

It is probably illegal, certainly impractical, and may well turn out to be fiendishly expensive.

Would it dissuade people from trying to get here on rubber dinghies? Well its vaguely possible - but for that to happen a very large proportion of those who are coming over in boats will have to be transported so that the word gets back.

This really is just Boris playing on the sentiments of those frustrated by the boat people landing in Kent.

I automatically assume these days that any government policy is dishonest immoral but mostly, just will not work.

And they never prove me wrong.

The UK doesn't even currently have an immigration problem, a meagre +34,000 net migration.

The most economical and efficient solution is simply to admit immigrants, subject to the necessary checks, and introduce them to work and society so they can contribute.

The policy of barring asylum seekers from working has no logic it typifies the malice and spite of the tories.

The tories have created their own immigration industry, designed to play on fears and perpetuate them in office, it is now 1.5 billions a completely unnecessary waste of money and resources.

They know this is not going to work but its actually a good reason to introduce it and they blow money left right and centre just until the next impractical and often illegal scheme comes along.

The people of Kent have every right to be pissed off. Especially when they get their council tax bills.

Any effort to stop illegals is very welcome.

Despite what the majority of those on this thread might think, most normal voters will look at this as a pretty unpleasant policy. It won't deter people traffickers one iota.
Its a great deal for Rwanda though. They are a very young country in a rebuilding process in deperate need for investment into their health and school systems.
It will be challenged legally. Most things that Priti Patel comes up with are.
