I think Thai-eagle’s right, in the real world, if anyone was unfit or unwell long term and unable to do their job they’d soon be on the scrap heap and would struggle to feed their family or put a roof over their heads. Only in premier league football can you not be able to do your job because of long term injury and not only survive but become a millionaire.
Yes it’s a shame from a sporting point of view, but I wouldn’t feel too sorry for him, save it for those who really are struggling

In his career he's been unlucky to be so injury prone. However, he's far more lucky to have been born with the footballing talent he has.

The point is right that compared to the vast majority of people who suffer from physical issues that impact their work Ferguson gets to move on as a millionaire for having achieved basically nothing but showing promise. Most get cast aside and there is little sympathy for them.....even war vets can end up on the streets and few want to know.

The money that has left him well off doesn't come out of thin air, it's ultimately seen in ticketing and football TV prices.....people have a right to feel a little hard done by when there's no return.....but not resentful as this obviously is just one of those inevitable things....some bodies are more brittle than others and that's just life.

As he's likely to go now we wish him well when that happens.

Perhaps his body will strengthen later into his twenties and he can play at a physical stress amount that will still work for him. However, a Premier league player gets paid too much for maybes and ifs.

The Ferguson experience, and I have little sympathy for anyone involved to be honest, tells you only about the stupidity of buying an injured player, particularly one whose injury was quite serious to begin with. I mean who, in their right mind, pays money for a player who's been out of the game for six months with an incapacitating knee issue at the time they sign him? It beggars belief. That Ferguson then went on to have not one but two serious Achilles injuries (not entirely a surprise; knee injuries are often followed by "compensation" injuries in other joints) and then major hamstring issues was, by then, not even shocking. Having been dumb enough to pay money for him in the first place, the club should have at least bought him out and settled his contract after the first Achilles rupture instead of throwing even more good money after bad. As for the player, and this will sound harsh, any specialist (except the Palace medical staff) would have likely have told him his chances of a PL career after the second injury were vanishingly small. But good for him...he's found the one club dumb enough to completely mismanage the situation and he's banked a good few bob as a result. We should stop discussing him. His career's over and frankly, the whole situation is embarrassing. When you've been a worse signing than Florian Marange, you don't deserve a thread of your own.
