Others may think that I don't. I think this is more like "group think" Uber has a mission statement that every car should be rented in the future, Sky Glass is just renting a TV etc. I don't think there is a global conspiracy but corporations have enormous power and governments seem reluctant to reel them in.

It's not a big deal, is it?

We rent things all the time, if it makes economic sense to do so. Hotel rooms, cars at airports, seats on aircraft. We don't own a room in every place we decide to spend a night, or own our own aircraft. We share.

so long as we retain the choice. No problem

The big deal is we will own nothing. Someone will own something. Some of the more intelligent on this thread will work out who.

I think the subject pertains to life in general not just going on holiday.

for the first time in history, the wealthy can buy replacement organs. Liver, kidneys etc.

the ethics of that are truly shocking.

another horrific one ? you buy a home for mega-bucks. And then the State puts nutters, living for free, into the house next-door.

Seems to happen in all of Western Europe.

So long as we own the right to decide for ourselves what suits us best, who cares? If it works for you in a crowded city not to own a car and rent transportation when you need it, what's the issue. Many do this now. If, because of changed circumstances, that principal gets extended, why see it as a negative?

Spreading conspiracy theories around about the motives of the WEF is unfortunately commonplace among a certain group of right wing activists. It's a shame when they are swallowed by the gullible among us and regurgitated here. Next time this happens, just recall this extract from the Wiki page of Ida Auken, whose provocative article was quoted as the justification for this thread:-

" Auken's article, and an associated WEF video on predictions for 2030 in which the article was summarized as "You'll own nothing. And you'll be happy. Whatever you want you'll rent and it'll be delivered by drone", would later form part of conspiracy theories about the WEF, particularly following the announcement of a "Great Reset" in 2020."

The article itself was written in 2016!

Oh apparently it's about choice.

Like the choice a young couple have to own their own home?.....Most of them can't, while their grandparents could.

These people are truly awful....and this emperor has no clothes, apparently in some cases literally.

Yeah, there's a choice....between terrible and awful for the vast majority.

‘’Moving to Cornwall is a possibility for everyone’’ I think was the quote.

Conflating real issues with the sweeping generalisations the article quite deliberately overstated adds nothing but further bs to this.

Whether we will ever return to the housing market of our own youth is very doubtful. Whether this is necessarily a bad thing is an open question. It's certainly a change, and there's no doubt that many of us grew up as part of a lucky generation, but so is every generation in some way or another. I remember rationing and still feel uncomfortable seeing food go to waste.

Things change. People need to adapt. That's neither new, nor avoidable.

Looking backwards and wishing that's what you can have in the future, will only leave you unprepared for the steamroller coming straight at you.

The future's neither terrible nor awful, unless you choose it to be. We will probably have to learn to be content with less, and find pleasure in different ways than mass consumerism, but that doesn't mean we will be unhappy. Happiness is a state of mind. I have seen many people who own nothing but the clothes they are wearing, but still have smiles on their faces.

So it is.

Against the wishes of some here, they haven't yet started demanding to see passports at the Tamar bridge and refusing entry to anyone from south London.

It depends on what's important. Some people value the environment here so much they live in very simple accommodation, and take massive cuts in income, to enjoy it.

The choice is entirely yours.
