Roy in the current situation is the perfect stop gap appointment until the end of the season to ensure we stay up. Then a full time appointment can be made in the summer. It cant be a depressing as no wins in 12 and adversity to shoot at goal under Vieira.
He knows the club and most of the players.

Simple question, why?

Roy is a defensive coach and defence hasn’t been our issue. So how do you think he is going to magic wins out of the hat? Genuine question.

Agree with your post. If things do go from bad to worse Roy will get dogs abuse and it will be toxic. He does not deserve this and I don’t want to see that either. As you reference in your post I hope he rejects this role to protect his legacy with us.

I think that should say WHEN things go from bad to worse... We obviously should have stuck with Viera and so be it if we got relegated. Then give him the chance ro rebuild in the Championship the and return to the Prem on a more stable footing. We might not like it but we have to take a look at what the Weeds have done down the road; there is no short term fixes going in there, they are building a long term project

WHAT IF ?

WHAT IF Eduard had got is header on target v Brighton?
WHAT IF Mateta’s shot v Citeh had gone under the bar?
WHAT IF we hadn’t allowed Brentford to score in the 96 min?

Life is full of WHAT IF’s, but had the above been different, none of the panto of this week would have happened and we may still have a potential top manager and us fickle fans would be on a high - given that we’d be more or less safe.
However, none of the above suddenly made PV a bad manager, and certainly not one worthy of sacking. If anything Eduard and Mateta should be sacked for under performing, not the manager!

Anyways, what is done is done and Roy is a logical, if not a popular, short term option. He knows the club and players inside out and they will respect him. As long as the ‘Parish Council’ use the remainder of the season to recruit a decent replacement who, maybe can work with Roy, toward the end of the season and into the summer break, or take over as and when Roy’s tenure is terminated, then I for one will be less down hearted.

I hope the team give us something to lift the spirit in the coming weeks... a shock result at the Emirates tomorrow would do the trick... and pigs might suddenly fly.

Good luck to PV where err he go, and to your successor.

COYP !

He’s 2 years older, couldn’t reverse the slide at Watford and I suspect will come back here and won’t be able to save us. He makes a team well drilled and defensively solid, that isn’t our problem. Our problems seem to be an imbalanced squad (which wasn’t addressed in January, and was our last chance to do so) and seemingly fitness which will take several weeks to get right.

The other problem is the recruitment team will spend half the summer on a interview process and we’ll be leaving it until the last minute to sign players again. We can’t afford to do that whatever division we are in.

My take is that the poor options in the squad will still be the same and there is nothing that can be done about that. We have a turd of a squad and no point trying to polish it.
We need to get a new manager in who can assess us, so his best and be ready to go next season, whatever division we are in.

I hope Parish has learned from his past mistakes. Stop gap managers just kick the can down the road. The manager needs to be given maximum time and appointed with enough time to gel a team together. The manager should be actively involved in recruitment. Players need to be bought in as early as possible not a bargain dash on deadline day. The squad needs to play preseason together, not half of them in one place and half in another.

Piss poor planning makes miss poor performance. Last summer was piss poor planning and we made minimum effort to rectify it in January.

For me the problems do not lie with the manager, I don’t think there is any manager who can suddenly turn the past mistakes around. What we need to do is make sure we don’t make them again, and that rests with the Board.

We have to hope that what we have is enough to get us over the line, because there are 3 worse teams. There may be. But what we shouldn’t do is appoint a stop gap as it will once again delay our entire summer.

The financial hit that the club would take from being relegated to the championship would be significantly more & likely have a much longer knock on effect than changing the manager in anticipation that it would change the outcome.

I do get your sentiment but really, we've been in the PL for ten years now. If the extent of our ambition is to promote the reserve team manager then really, let's just go down and enjoy the Championship. I'd like to see us make a hire that shows some bloody ambition for once. Persuade a manager who has a serious profile and pedigree to come to Palace, then back him properly. Show a bit of intent and stop cutting corners. Show we're serious about progressing.

I'm definitely not saying he should be given the full time job right now but I am looking forward to seeing if he can make a difference given how he has the U21's playing and if he can get our lazy forwards playing like them then who knows.
If I was the owner and we did actually beat Arsenal or at least made a really good game of it then I think I would give Paddy a bit longer especially when there's an international break for him to have a good couple of weeks training with the players. Or bring a manager in who doesn't know the players and is thrown straight into a relegation battle not knowing anything about the club. Unless it is Hodgson God forbid.
Forget Hodgson, like I said in a previous post he's one for tightening up a defence for a team who are getting caned every week, not getting a team scoring again which is our problem. He is literally the worst man for the job.
At this stage of the season Im not sure if there is a safer bet than for Paddy to be given until the end of the season and if we survive comfortably and we're scoring goals again then why wouldn't he be given it full time?

You are right. The board should have considered that in January and seen that the squad needed more that a 20 year old with about as many games under his belt and a loanee.

They gambled. Now they have panicked.

Firstly I don't trust for a minute that it would just be until the end of the season. Can easily see a situation where he keeps us up so they stick him on a year's rolling contract.

Secondly I am baffled by the notion of him being the perfect stopgap when our defence is well organised and we're lacking in goals. He's the absolute opposite of what we need at this point, I'd honestly rather appoint Pardew for 10 games.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Could it work for Roy to come in as a sort of consultant/adviser for Paddy until the end of the season? His experience and knowledge might help ease him into the job.

Ray Lewington as advisor would make more sense although Paddy has worked with all these guys for years and has a lot of experience himself. If he has fresh ideas then maybe they shouldn’t be squashed by being exposed to old ones?

Paddy might be a great PL in the making but has no PL experience, and Roy has lots of experience. Roy came last time to bail us out of a relegation slide and that's what we need now, avoiding relegation
