There were too many things stacking up against Vieira statistically as well as results and performances in the end. Too much was made of the difficult run of fixtures in one of the most open Premier League seasons. The difference in the last two games has been stark and points heavily to overly prescriptive coaching in possession under PV.

One other fact is that Roy has played people in their natural and therefore best positions whereas Vieira was constantly tinkering with square pegs in round holes so-to-speak.

The fixtures was tough for Viara, however 1 win in 15/16 games in a results business is always a concern. I was shocked to hear he got the boot, but no one can deny that in hindsight it was the right call. If we can all agree on one thing, the form in Eze alone because he was a bit part player under Viara.

It was always dubious that Vieira got so much praise for adapting our style and integrating new players. Another more realistic way of looking at it is that Vieira was afforded a transfer kitty that Roy only dreamed of which improved the potential of the team considerably. With that luxury, Vieira turned a team of mostly talented players into a disillusioned mess who couldn't even create a chance in the end. Roy comes back, and he suddenly gets a team full of exciting players to do what they are capable of. When you drop one of the most exciting players in the league to the bench when you can't win a game to save your life, you know it's time to go. Vieira has never been a successful coach, and he will be consigned to the same bin as Frank Lampard, Brian Robson and all the other quality players who didn't make good managers. We scored 1 in the last 5 under PV and 7 in the last 2 under Roy. Eze is playing with a big fat smile on his face again . Its not a good advertisement for PV.

I was pro-Vieira but ultimately results dictated that a change had to be made. And I agree, he didn't have the managerial experience to get the most of the resources available to him. There's an open question as to whether he could have turned it around after we completed that tough run of fixtures, but clearly the majority of the ownership thought not. To bring some perspective into this, Roy's appointment was not greeted with unanimous enthusiasm. I'm sure most people thought ( well, I did ) it was a return to the pragmatic grinding out of points performances that we had previously under him. Instead we have had two performances of real attacking intent. And recovered from going behind in both games, demonstrating character from the players. Roy knows the job is far from being completed as he said in his post match interview. Both Leicester and Leeds showed their own lack of character and confidence, and it was good to see a Palace team take full advantage. As for next season, a bit like the Zaha situation, we need to prepare for life without Roy coming to the rescue. The recruitment was shambolic last time, let's hope we see an improvement this time around.

There's a serious amount of PV hate on this thread. He made us an exciting watch, and got them playing nice football. It all went wrong this season. I think thats down to losing CG and JimmyMac, and attempting to use different players to fill holes they were not suited for. His greatest failing was sticking to his methods, rather than finding a system that suited our (remaining) players. 'Clueless' is A term I've read on here a fair bit. I think he was more Stubborn than Clueless. I liked PV, but he was showing his failings, not just through the widely accepted run of 10 tough games but on those games before it, and those games like Villa which were games that we should have shown more. The chances created/shots on target stat was pretty damning in the end.
