Vieira was not clueless at all but where he failed was in an inability to motivate a good bunch of players.

Their morale was notably declining and when Leicester took the lead I doubt if he would have got them to recover, after all it was a close run thing in the end.

The benefit was to morale and self-belief particularly to Schlupp, Ayew and Eze.

Plus he recognised that playing Eze in a free role released his talents.

And above all, he got Jordan Ayew to smile - a rare achievement!

Regardless of transfers made, he gave us a great season last season. which you have to give him credit for.

He made us an exciting watch, and got them playing nice football. It all went wrong this season. I think thats down to losing CG and JimmyMac, and attempting to use different players to fill holes they were not suited for.

His greatest failing was sticking to his methods, rather than finding a system that suited our (remaining) players. 'Clueless' is A term I've read on here a fair bit. I think he was more Stubborn than Clueless.

I liked PV, but he was showing his failings, not just through the widely accepted run of 10 tough games but on those games before it, and those games like Villa which were games that we should have shown more. The chances created/shots on target stat was pretty damning in the end.
For all of his failings this year, please don't forget the good he did for us.

Like what?

We got 4 more points than Roy did the previous season, but with better players.

We were briefly more entertaining, but the performances got slowly worse.
We had a tough run of games, but it was not the results that got him sacked, but rather the nature of our defeats. We were totally incapable of creating chances, never mind scoring.
There is no way that a chairman is going to look at that and take a risk on sticking with Vieira.

I wonder if the likes of Garth Crooks and Ian Wright would have criticised his sacking if he had been say Roy Hodgson.

I dont think there is any hate for him Badger, I think it more along the lines of he was just not up to the task . I quiet like him , he comes across as a nice guy , lets face it anyone that can kick Roy Keane is ok in my book . The stats dont lie though , I also think for such a tough player the softly softly approach didnt suit .

I don't recall much criticism of PV prior to the World Cup.
At that stage a top 10 finish looked realistic and we hoped for a Mcarthur return and possible additions in the January window.

However, the subsequent results were shocking and although we remained competitive we rarely looked like troubling the opposition let alone scoring goals.

The players have to take some responsibility for the decline of course, but PV showed little evidence of being able to turn it around.

By and large the same players have played in the last couple of games, although there have been enhanced roles for Eze and Edouard.
We're playing 10 yards further forward with nore confidence and Eze is now playing closer to Olise which has allowed them both to flourish.
When considering the upturn in form fair to factor in the poor opposition in the last two games, but I somehow doubt we had as many shots in games under PV even when playing well.
The new training regime is bearing dividends.

There is a fitting thread, it's just under the title 'Nathan Ferguson'.

Criticism doesn't necessarily equate to "hate".

In fact I can't say I have seen any form of hatred directed at PV. I think most of us would have loved to have seen him succeed, and respected him for his quiet dignity, and, on one level, regret seeing him go.

But, we were on a downward spiral, and perhaps there were goings on behind the scenes which we were not party to, and which made his position untenable.

it was quotes Like 'he was a totally clueless individual without an ounce of get up and go' that got my goat...

And yes, we were on a downward spiral - but that was this year. Last year, most were incredibly happy with how we performed, and would not have dreamed to be in this situation.

I'm in agreement that it was the right time to get rid, performances intimated that his methods were not working, and there was no evidence that the 'easier run of fixtures' would have seen any upturn in fortunes.

Why does that bother you? Is he your dad?

The fact is that managers get sacked every week when results are poor and performances are unacceptable.
Vieira had one decent season, as many managers do, and then ran out of ideas when the going got tough.

Parish could not take the risk of presuming that we would do better against lower ranked teams when we were playing so badly at this stage of the season.

Roy is proving that the same set of players are capable of much better with the right mentality.

We won 1-5 on Saturday. Why are we even still talking about Vieira?

He is the worse manager we have ever had given the tools he had, if he had carried on as manager we would be relegated, end of.
