Sheffield Utd got dicked in injury time too.

Thought Richards played ok especially first half. Eze was shocking and at times was like playing with ten men. He either gave the ball away or slowed down play. And then offered nothing defensively which when playing well can be forgiven but today really poor

The Johnstone injury and consequent delay seemed to unsettle us more than them.
We weren't quite the same afterwards.
I thought Hughes and Edwards were fine, but there not Guehi and Lerma.
We didn't look quite as assured at the back and missed Lerma's energy and strength in midfield.
This is part of the reason why I don't like international weeks, but I suppose injuries can happen at any time.
We look more threatening with Mateta and Edourd on the field, but it is at the expense of some midfield solidity and means Eze plays slightly out of position.

I forgot to say in my post about their 1st goal as well... Don't get me wrong what an unbelievable strike but striker in the box should be able to chest the ball, allow it to come down and then get a strike away with absolutely no type of challenge going in.
Mitchell has to take some responsibility for that one.

Gutted after the way we lost but nothing none of us already knew, they was definitely the better team, we're definitely better than about 8 clubs in the league just not got the squad depth and strength to break into the top 10. Still excited for Franca to see what he can do and olise to come back but we will stay up comfortably and give a good account of ourselves in most matches.

OK, you got me, who's Edwards?

I felt that too.
Time seemed to stand still and Mitchell stood off him and made no attempt to block.

We looked so tired the last 15 mins. It was a strange performance. A bit disjointed and I thought we were quite wasteful when we were 1-0 up but we didn't deserve to lose it either.
Hughes was slightly off the pace I thought but understandable with it being his 1st start.

I'm a qualified ref at Combined Counties level so I'm normally very supportive of officials however the penalty decision was bizarre... As slight a touch as Richards got on the ball he still got a touch when the tackle initially went in. That's the reason why he was sent to the screen to review it. I can't understand why he stuck with his initial decision.

But even more infuriating for me was why on earth the penalty wasn't retaken??... The 19 for Villa was at least 3 yards or so into the area before the ball was kicked. You have to ask yourself why has this not been picked up by VAR??

Johnstone and Ayew both picked up injuries. Hughes was hobbling a bit at the end as well. Not good for an already paper thin squad.

We move forward though.

Pleased to hear you are doing well with your reffing, the highlighted bit, is because VAR is not there for those infringments, so, therefore Darren England should've spotted it & re-acted accordingly. As for the awarding of the pen, ridiculous amount of time only for him to stick to his original decision. In real time i, too, would've awarded a pen, but, looking at replays, Watkins kicked the back of Richards leg & then in stumbling, Richards then fouls Watkins. No Pen(apart from Mr England, coz even VAR said no).

Glad someone else is brave enough to mention how awful Eze was today. Won’t work hard enough in midfield when we played two up top today? And yes to others picking up Mitchell on the first goal allowing the player to control and shoot :-(

Thanks mate. And yes you're right VAR isn't there for the infringement but again as you say Darren England should of easily of seen the infringement. It wasn't like it was across the other side of the penalty area. He was literally the closest player to him and well into the area that he really should of noticed!!

I thought it was a decent performance under the circumstances, i thought the back four played well, Richards had a good game, Doucoure and Hughes were excellent, at the end of the day they tired, before they got the first i couldn't see the scoring, but with a smallish squad, having Olise, Franca, Guehi, Lerma and then losing Ayew was a big blow, even so i thought we deserved at least a point.
