The lawyers rule the roost in most. Especially in places which need to stay profitable to survive and aren’t funded by a politically motivated billionaire.

And in this case it wasn't a newspaper article anyway. It was an online talk she gave.

So the decision was her’s alone. I would guess then, without studying the circumstances, that the newspapers refused to sign off on the story.

Or she let her personal animosity show.

Or she let her personal animosity show.

Why would she do that if, as seems likely, she had been given legal advice not to?

Neither of us know her true motivations so we are both only theorising. Having read the judgement I didn’t detect any animosity. I detected resoluteness which indicated to me that she knew something and was determined to see it out in public.

I would not be surprised if probing is still going on in the hope that a stone can be turned which reveals admissible evidence.

Strange how another stone needs looking under.
The left must have a bad back by now !

Stones aren’t political. Nor is any wrongdoing that might be concealed by them. Wrongdoing is just wrong and everyone, whatever their politics, should be looking to expose it.

It seems probable that any advice given would have been to a newspaper, not to her as she is a freelancer. I don’t know anymore than anyone else what her motivation was but if she was aware of a newspaper being legally advised not to publish she must have thought it very important to go ahead in another way.

She cannot be stupid and unaware of the risks involved and the probable outcome.

It's also possible that the lawyers based their advice on the fact the allegations weren't true.

Which goes back to what I was told. That journalists don’t invent stories. They know full well that unless they have verifiable evidence either their editor or the lawyers won’t sign off on the story. Bring stories like that to the editor and you won’t have a job for long. No one pays journalists for fiction.

An opinion piece by a writer with very odd views (read some of his other pieces) is just another opinion. It proves nothing. He is entitled to his opinion. Other opinions are available.

You have no need to look in obscure magazines to find such opinions. They are here in this thread.
