Love doesn’t override citizenship laws but those laws, in any compassionate society, do acknowledge and try to accommodate it.

If you have witnessed, as I have, the struggles, devotion and dedication that some have to go through just to achieve the fundamental right of being with the person they love, you might be more understanding and sympathetic.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

The overwhelming majority of students are from the sub-continent where someone you love translates as arranged marriage.

How about we allow people to come to the UK to do lower paid jobs without family and without any recourse to citizenship/ asylum etc.

A proper guest worker system, we will than have a better idea of what jobs need to pay.

If you don't want to come and work in the UK on those terms then fine, don't come.

If for example, someone arrives in the UK at age 30 with a family of say one adult and two children of 5 and 7 and earns 40K a year, they will never pay enough tax and NIC to be anything other than a net recipient factoring in just NHS and education.

Education per child is in the region of 5K per year for basic schooling .
