Correct, involving Mussolini and surprise, surprise the Vatican

Next......

Queen Boudicca as a British national heroine. Apart from the longstanding error in the spelling & pronunciation of her name ( not the ecclesiastical Bodacia )
a) she flopped and fail to win her battles against the Romans - cementing their grip b) she was really a traitor descended from a long line of pro-Roman puppet collaborators.

Similarly...

Saddam Hussein as the butcher of Baghdad...the enemy of the West. Curiously he had been their own little puppet in the Region for a heck of a long time. It was only after he went Rogue that he got all the bad rep. Meanwhile many other nasty genocidal puppets, who have abused Human Rights, never got the rep Saddam got.

Isn't it always the way. Take Uganda. Milton Obote, soft spoken first president and pro West homicidal lunatic . Heard of him? No? Idi Amin, successor and pro Soviet homicidal lunatic. I bet you've heard of him.

Spot the difference?

Africa in the 1970s 1980s and 1990s. Chock full of nasty little despots committing unspeakable acts against their own people (Britain in the 1980s was the largest exporter of torture implements and had ready buyers on that continent). Yet the only permanent vigil outside an embassy was the relatively benign South Africa. That was more empire guilt than anything but you still hear horror stories of the pre Mandela era but nothing about Liberia et al. OK Zimbabwe gets a bad rap... but didn't they lean to the hammer and sickle?

Not too sure how reliable this is, but I was told it by some knowledgeable bloke I used to work with.
A renegade IRA cell killed Louis Mountbatten in 1979. This unit of IRA members had breached an agreed policy with the UK Government. The IRA cell members were taken to a remote place in Ireland, and shot dead in front of a couple of UK and US Government officials, and their bodies destroyed.
It seemed plausible.

Afraid not mate. One of the killers only died recently. It would be a three man cell - two at least to carry out the mission. It had permission from the Supreme Council - which still exists despite the troubles being supposedly over. Nice story though.

The post should have been more specific.

The BBS must have got boring.

The Dresden bombing is one of these - largely due to Nazi propaganda. Yes, bad for civilians but nowhere near as portrayed. Plus a totally legitimate target - again obscured by propaganda.
I find it relatively interesting in the current Israel situation.
The Nazis added a zero to the casualty figures and the rest is history.

Roswell was 1947, as Hrolf posted.

Hitlers death. Some say his death was faked and the americans whisked him off to Argentina.

It does seem too convenient that he shot himself and then bodie was burnt and all they could idenfy him with was his teeth?

If it was true I doubt he would have lasted long anyway as he had really poor health.

Could border on conspiracy theory than incorrect history tho.

Bloody Mary....

Probably no more or less religiously genocidal than most of her Royal peers. Both in England and certainly on mainland Europe.

Henry viii, Elizabeth I , Oliver Cromwell , Catherine de Medici ,

Even Charlemagne was fond of religious conversions on the chopping block. And dont even mention the Spanish inquisition.

Eze Peasy at Anfield....

Regarding the discussions above re Lord Mountbatten, I never heard about the IRA Leadership being at loggerheads with the rank & file. And had just assumed the operation was ordered by whoever.

Regarding the Ira's motivations, the Belfast Telegraph ran a story that I will not repeat on here. Nor will I mention the various Internet rumours that you can easily find yourself.

The truth, will probably never be known.

Another incorrect history story ?

Richard the Lionheart as portrayed by Hollywood....English & proud. Ou lá lá
