He's probably on pretty good wages at Newcastle & If he's staying then fair play to him. Nice to see a Top player staying with a club to wrong a right. Who can remember Jermaine Defoe wanting to leave West Ham a few years back almost minutes after they were relegated!!

I don't think the rumours about us would ever have arisen (clearly will have been raised by his agent) if he was looking to stay at Newcastle. But I think it is feasible he didn't see us as a sufficient step up. Benitez would be a big pull to remain at Newcastle and he is on a massive wedge so has no reason to move for money either. But if the option is to go and play for one of the biggest clubs in the world then that might suddenly shift. I don't think that's unreasonable.

Maybe he likes the north and the idea of joining a club where he won't play much.. He is really missing the point. Come to Selhurst and be treated as a super star. He's never had that before or stay north and never play.
