I don't think he looks for thanks but thank you anyway.
We've come a long way in a short time. We stumble sometimes but get up and move on.
We have a calibre of people at the club now that I never thought we'd see. It's great.

We move in the direction of our thoughts.
Just think a little.

Hopefully there will be one or two more, but to be strictly accurate, it's 'player' singular currently, is it not?

No one quite knows why Jenkinson didnt sign but it smacks of another schoolboy error from Parish- is now the time to play hard ball on wages with defenders who our manager wants and we desperately need? So far we have signed 1 player havent we? Have I missed something? He backed Pardew to the hilt but that was a massive mistake. We needed to have more signings over the line already as its now Jan 23rd and our January so far has been a disaster on the pitch. He certainly splashed the cash with Pardew (after not wanting to with good old Poolis) but given the dire straits we are in this is a pretty rubbish transfer window so far. Lets hope we get some deals over the line finally here this week.

The only thing that motivates players to join a club in relegation trouble is money...and that has often been a sticking point at Palace.

Unfair to blame this on Parish. Jenkinson is not a player ( imo ) worth paying over the odds for.

Ideally you don't want to be desperate for new players come the January window but that's where we find ourselves. And prices in this window are usually artificially high - as Sam Allardyce himself pointed out a couple of weeks ago.

There is still time to get players in before the next league game and I think we will.

When you're s**t it's hard to get decent player to join a relegation fight.

Regardless of what type of team we have I cant see what else Steve Parish could do, He has put his money where his mouth is. Yes i think he did let the Pardew saga drag on a little longer than he should of. We all live and learn.

We now have Sam now lets see what happens, In the short time he has been here yo can see the improvement in defence. From my point of view it was a much improved performance on Saturday, And we should possibly of got something out of the game, The squad we have are good enough for the Premier if the fitness and confidence is sorted out, you don't become a bad player over night. These threads are now becoming boring

None of these players are short of a few quid & those, like Jenkinson who are benched or forgotten are still paid that handsome wage for doing sod all, were they genuinely in it for the love of the game you'd imagine they'd be grateful of a new club sniffing. Now, if the media's to be believed & he wanted more £££ than he currently earns then good on SP for standing his ground & refusing. Far more to the deal than that I expect but then, there's far more deserving / willing defenders available than him. Saw some comments from both Palace & Leicester saying we'd overpaid for Schlupp, I've no idea but if he plays like he did on Saturday & shows that much passion I reckon we did alright.

If not over-paying Jenkinson allows us to get Van-Aanholt then Parish is doing the right thing.

These are example figures obviously but say we have 100k per week for wages. If Van Aanholt wants 40k per week, is really keen to join us and is the position we most need, then that is the priority.

If we are offering Jenkinson 60k because he's coming from a top 4 club and is English but he is asking for 70k, then it's not being stingy, it's literally one or the other and we'd be mad not to go for the left back.

I'm not saying that's what's definitely happened or that Parish isn't being tight and we could afford both but I think that's a likely scenario.

A right back is nice to have. A left back is need to have.

I believe there is some sort of salary cap, that certain clubs can only increase slowly because they are over a certain limit. It's to do with FFP under something called Short Term Cost Control.

The regulations prior to this season:

Clubs whose total wage bill is more than £52million will only be allowed to increase their wages by £4million per season for the next three years.

This seasons regulations:

Premier League clubs have voted to continue their Short Term Cost Control (STCC) rules; updated rules will come into effect from next season (2016/17) and will apply for three-year duration of the next TV deal. The STCC rules first came in three years ago and are designed to help ensure sustainability of the top-flight clubs by ensuring that clubs don't spend the TV deal on hugely increased wages.

Clubs will be able to increase their wage spend by £7m each season from 2016/17 to 2018/19 (an increase from the £4m a season during the current TV deal). Clubs can exceed this £7m cap if they generate increased revenue from commercial income, player trading and Match Day income.

I found this at: [Link]

The Premier League Handbook will explain it under the section on Short Term Cost Control (pages 117-118 ), downloaded from: [Link]

I suspect this is why personal terms have fallen through with some players and maybe why we are looking to offload Townsend.

This is what is fundamentally floored about FFP. It just took into account the teams' starting point.

Teams with over 53 mil but doesn't cap or reduce ones that are way over. So for example, if the top clubs have a wage bill of 500 million, they can increase that by 4 million every year.

If Palace have a wage bill of 54 million but then manage to stay up in the Premier League somehow for 3 seasons (aka what actually happened), we are not allowed to increase it to the amount of being able to move up the league. Keeping us exactly where we are.

Of course on a separate issue, it's probably not a good idea to have the likes of Jordan Mutch, Zeki Fryers and Frazier Campbell taking up a chunk of our budget and not being good enough for our squad.

I think that's another reason Parish is being so careful. He's getting a bit tired of a different style Manager coming in and saying he needs these type of players, then those players not being what the next one wants.

So he's only really trying for players that would fit into most systems because if next year Sam walks out we can't afford someone coming in and saying "I need a right back, Jenkinson isn't my type of full-back".

No it doesn't. He has FFP to contend with & our need elsewhere in the team is greater. Add to that the fact that the lifelong fanatical Arsenal fan Jenkinson simply doesn't want to leave HIS club & you may be nearer the truth.

A while back on Sunday Supplement they were saying the FFP fines are considerably bigger under the new regime - 2015/16 cost Bournemouth £7m. I'm sure the board would prefer not to throw money away for the sake of it.

We've a few contracts expiring in June which will help so let's hope it's not too late by then.
