Look beyond the shrines to financial services and you will see inner London for the festering, class-divided, oppresive karzie that it truly is. Rome, for all its density and lack of living space, retains a depth of grace, soul and balance that London can only dream of. I'd emigrate there or to VAN / MTL in a heartbeat if I had no kids.

I can only go by the cities I have been to, of course. Probably around 50-60. But I do know Vancouver does have horrendous homeless and drug addict problems at the moment. Plus, it pisses down a lot which can't be nice when your trousers are already soaking in wee. London you could easily do something different 365 days a year with what is on offer and not many cities can boast that. Then there is the history and parks and architecture, etc.

Asylum, if we go to source though, can be made to work for the UK in a way the current system doesn't. If you can select from the camps and refugees crossing the border, you can pick and choose the best candidates rather than just those who turn up on the door step. It also creates a reasonable grounds for refusing most Asylum claims 'at the border' of the UK and returning people to the point of transit to the UK (i.e. refusing them entry - which is a lot easier than dealing with denied claimants later) Asylum is something I support as a necessary concept for a democratic state's self image. However, when it comes to taking in Islamic refugees...again, I would only take the safe options....secular/cultural Muslims. This country has far too much social conservatism as it is.
