I think that the policeman in charge of his case is probably Australian which is why they have dragged it out as long as possible

It's almost like the news of him flying to NZ jogged their memory.

"Weren't we supposed to do something with his paperwork..."

Disgraceful capitulation in this series.

Never convinced about Vince and Malan and in the summer Broad was not his old self.Could well end up 5-0.

This is the problem. We are hardly awash with talent.
Westley and Ballance have been tried but weren't that impressive.
Same for Compton and Hameed has been out of form.
Maybe Hales could have opened with Stoneman at No 3 but Hales' technique at test level has been found wanting.
Other openers that have been tried have failed ie Jennings,Lyth, Duckett, Robson etc.

I have never been confident that we could retain the ashes against their pace attack in their conditions.

Lawrence is an England player in the making.....should have been in last summer. Robson was a strong candidate to play on these pitches.

He couldn't. He wasn't available until Monday due to the same incident as Stokes.

I think England should do what we used to do at my old sports club in Crayford; have a Footballers v Cricketers series.

England cricket team v England football team at cricket on one date and then at football a few days later. Both teams could then find their true level.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)
