Not sure I believe that the backstop is the only problem with Parliament voting through May's deal.

But a plan is basically something that recognises the mutual incompatibility of leaving the UK whilst maintaining an open border with the EU because of the gfa.

A solution should have been found before the referendum was called or article 50 invoked. Otherwise we're committed to achieving the impossible.

Which is exactly why there won't be one.

Agree with your assessment of automation, but a successful Brexit will trigger other countries wanting to follow us.

I agree that at the stage we're at, any action in attempting to prevent the world going in the distopian way it's heading is a fairly long shot, but it's better than giving in to it.

A successful Brexit
Should already be clear this isn't going to happen.

Dystopian
That's subjective.

Longshot, i.e. not going to happen
Why waste energy on it then. There are so many more things you could be doing with your time, like, for example, enjoying life or focusing on contributing to a cause that you might actually be able to influence. I just don't see the logic in trying to change something that you're already aware isn't going to change. It's like raging at a dead bird for not being able to fly. We've all got better things to do that might actually be of value to society.

So we shouldn't leave because those nasty self serving EU people are going to make it tough for us.

Have you no backbone Nick Junior?

Personally, I've never been more keen to leave.

I think the point is that we made it tough for ourselves by not acknowledging how difficult it would be and planning accordingly.

Alternatively you can just blame someone else. After all we aren't nasty & self serving are we? We're lovely and cuddly.

From what you've said, you are aware of the way things are headed. Do you see it as a progression where we are/have come from? If you don't, how can you just surrender to it?

It is inevitable, and therefore I'd rather not waste my time working against it. I'd rather work with it and prepare for it, get ahead if you will. That will be far more beneficial than getting any temporary, misguided sense of satisfaction or 'at least I did my bit' from throwing an acorn at a charging elephant and subsequently being trampled.

Again, on this specific topic, I just don't see the logic in trying to change something you have no control over. Your energy would be much better spent elsewhere. I do see the logic if you've become indoctrinated into thinking you can actually make a difference. Or if you are successfully attempting to create an organised, coherent global movement/revolt against the system.

I'm fairly confident that no one expected Brexit to win and it is also rather difficult to plan for the unknown.
There are no experts and the whole process has been one bit of brinksmanship after another.

When France and Germany broke post-war bread with the aim of restoring sustainable peace, we were rightly supportive of this partnership.

But it has morphed in an all consuming, bullying, anti-democratic monstrosity.

Even the disgraced, pro-EU sycophant Tony Blair admitted in 2014 that:

'The EU is no longer about peace, it is about power'.

We must take this opportunity to leave now.

Power corrupts and wealth dictates.

In the post atom bomb world, a desire for more unity and ultimately, a virtual world government has become a realistic goal.
Despite the appeal, the reality is that greed always corrupts individuals, and through them, organisations.
The EU is easily corruptible and wishes to monopolise the game.
Ultimately, there might be no way to stop the runaway train, but if we want to retain a semblance of our identities and our flimsy right to some type of democracy, then we have to fight it hard or else become just global nationless consumers feeding the greed of tiny group super rich puppet masters.
