Do you honestly think Chelsea will offer a young English manager a job??.. The only reason Lampard got it was due to his legendary status at the club.

6 months out of football is hardly a long time.. When I read some of the posts on here I struggle to understand why some people seem to think that we should just be grateful to have Roy and that we can't do any better.

Mr Hodgson was brought in to stable the team on the pitch which is what he's achieved for the whole duration of being here, everyone seems to fail to understand that our next manager is the one to watch to improve our standing as a club but this is only going to happen when the funds are available!

Not rocket science.

It seems strange to me that everyone keeps mentioning that we need to strengthen the squad desperately to be able to progress but at the same time criticize our manager for not making the squad he has at this moment compete with teams further up the table.

Can fans that want him gone please help me to understand how he is able to solve this problem.

Until we sort out our right flank we’re in dire straits. The team realize this and so invariably attack down the left which becomes bunched and overcrowded leading to lost possession will silly close quarter flicks which don’t come off.
With current team I’d be tempted to play Mateta and Benteke up front with Zaha in support and go Big Sam long ball route one.
Sad...but needs must..

...and when we do try to play down the right Townsend and Ward’s deficiencies are exposed.

does anyone still think that anyone couldn't do better than Roy Hodgson ? He is bereft of ideas and we are drifting dangerously.

I'd like to get Thomas Franck but would take Eddie Howe at a pinch to reverse our slide.

Arguably another manager could do better than Roy with this squad. The real issue is everything has gone stale over time, same manager, same players for too long.
Roy has done a great job with lack of investment in the squad compared to teams we are competing against, but we have reached end of the road.
Franck is the best option, bit of a gamble, but something new is needed. Howe had much more money invested in his team at Bournemouth, but still got them relegated.

Not rocket science.

Significant funds will only be available when new owners take over and that will only ever happen when Mr Parish is willing to relinquish his shareholding and management control and he has shown no signs of wanting to do that despite promising ten years ago that he was only here for the short term

Had a bad dream last night that we had lost our next six games and Roy was still not sacked as we moved into the bottom three without hope.

Easy. We need 2 or 3 new players so Croydon Roy can stick then on the bench. If they're good and buy him a bottle of wine they may get introduced in the 89th minute when we are already 3-0 down. That's how to use the squad, Roy style.

We don't have the money........Are you drunk!?
We haven't got the team.........Are you feeling ok!?
Remember where we was a gazillion years ago.........Hush your gums!!!
We're little old Palace.......ZZZzzzzz

And the list goes on with so much gratitude for meodioricty (I don't care if I got it wrong for any grammar police, I still got light years more about me than you)

Fair Play my guy

The club has to be viable, our stadium reflects our standing on the pitch, we're improving our Academy which is important to encourage new up and coming youngster's, we are only a few new additions from being able to compete with consistency which is what is required to achieve what you seem to be saying albeit OTT. Our Stadium though in all reality is a disaster and this you will find is holding us back hugely.

That made I laugh Deano !

On the subject of wanting more for the club, settling for mediocrity etc etc., I am ' Pro Roy ' and have defended him against what I think is unfair criticism. Hopefully I have also provided a balanced view when discussing his shortcomings.

Do I want more from the club - yes, definitely. Better football - absolutely. Settling for mediocrity - no. But there's more to it than simply '' Roy Out ''.

In my view, it always goes back to this; Parish appointed him. Hodgson achieves his No.1 objective - keeping Palace in the Premier League. Parish continues to hire him. The football is dire but we stay up. Parish continues to hire him. No real investment in new players, Hodgson gets on with the job, and Parish continues to hire him.

My hope is that by Parish having taken the short term view in respect of first team matters, the club will eventually emerge from that, still be in the Premier League, ( reasonably ) financially stable and then start to look beyond a 12 month window.

Only then can we expect change.

It seems difficult for one or two to comprehend that some fans want both a new manager and a couple of new players to refresh the squad. It’s not either or.
It seems somewhat incongruous that when we lose some would have it that it’s down to the players , but when we win it’s down to Hodgson’s acumen as opposed to those same players.
Some argue in favour of Hodgson and refer to the days of Trevor Francis and Peter Taylor and trot out the old cliche about ‘be careful for what you wish for.’
But it’s not exactly comparing apples with apples and Hodgson is working with a far superior squad packed with experienced internationals.
I go back to the days of Don Rogers and Vince Hilaire and I’m not convinced Hodgson would have played them even at their pomp.
He’d be asking them to track the full back and learn how to play the role from Townsend.
Yes, I know it’s a different era.
But great players will always flourish if given the opportunity.
