You're probably right. I'm the world's worst cynic but share your view that he has very limited involvement in recruitment.

I didn't think that he had made it so black and white in the past. If that is genuinely the case and Dougie Freedman and Steve Parish are making the hiring and firing decisions I expect that will put off some possible future managers including Sean Dyche as what decent manager will want to put his team building in the hands of a failed Championship manager and a marketing man

But at the end of the day, it’s results that keep you up and most clubs cannot afford relegation. If Brighton go down, will that justify the tippy Tappy football?
Having said that, I do feel that Brighton are possibly 2 strikers away from being a very good team

Any new manager will of course have to accept the way Palace operate, or at least negotiate the exact role they are happy with, if Palace can accommodate that.

I'm sure different clubs give their managers different levels of power and authority, but I doubt anyone gets to build their own team really. Dyche fell out with Burnley last summer when the club declined to renew deals for a few out of contract players he wanted to keep, or to replace them. He was quite public about it.

Even pochettino at spurs made the point clearly. He got a new contract in which his job title was changed from coach to manager, then later asked the club to change it back as he was so frustrated at having so little power to make signings.

There won't be another old school Clough, Shankley or even Coppell again. Team building is a club matter largely.
