You’re right in that there’s no special sort of abuse.

However, some is certainly more pervasive than others, and therefore garners more attention. Semantics but ultimately explanatory.

Now if you feel that racist abuse is far less culturally pervasive than other types of abuse and therefore gets focused on far too much and unfairly so, sure, go ahead and make that case

I slightly disagree. Abuse for stuff you can’t help (race, ethnicity, physical features etc) is definitely worse than abuse for stuff you can help (i.e. abusing someone else for any of the previously mentioned).

I don't accept the fact that racism is a serious problem in this country. I also know that online abuse was barely an issue until it was stoked up by Sky Sports to fill its news cycle. This is cynical manipulation.

There is no special form of abuse. Racial abuse is no different to any other.
The sport of football has a massive disproportion of Black footballers. So do other many other sports. So does advertising. Everywhere we look, Black people are being over represented, promoted and given a platform to complain.

Where is this racism?

Try listening to some of the people taking a stand where this racism is.

Abuse is abuse. Some have a culture of abusing others for any reason they can muster. I don't know precisely why people feel the need to do so, but I assume it must be their own insecurity.
What I am sure of is that if you give some people exposure, they will exploit it. Sky have done no end of harm by highlighting what was a tiny problem, and by doing so have made online abuse a new favourite pastime for attention seeking idiots.

But I’ve been around enough people who aren’t straight white males to see the amount of sh*t they have to put up with. And you know what? That seems an awful lot more tiring and worthy of getting fed up about than having ‘race issues’ shoved in your face all the time.

My son was racially abused at school when he was young. In the end I put him to a private school which cost me 30k pa.
The abusers were black kids. Just saying.

I don't agree, abuse is abuse.

If a bullet blows your brains out, it doesn't matter whether it's from your enemy, friendly fire or a ricochet.

I can understand why someone might feel differently but for me, ultimately all that matters is whatever the end result is.

So a person calling someone a c*nt for racially abusing someone is just as bad as the person who gave the racial abuse?

I grew up in Stockwell, there was anti white abuse and violence too.

You're well meaning, but you're an idealist who doesn't really know what you're talking about.

Tell me. At what point do you think Black people will be content?

How far back in people's phone history will we have to search? How many statuses will we pull down? How much positive discrimination will they need before they are content?

Wake up. This never ends.

Congratulations. Not everyone is as mentally strong as you. Not everyone can just brush it off and let it make them stronger. Some people get depression. Some people get suicidal. Some people take their own lives.

Imagine having to deal with crap constantly just because of the colour of your skin. You haven’t had to deal with that have you?

just ask a white person from Johannesburg. How often are they getting abused and murdered ?

oh but sorry Dan, wrong square in your box-ticking chart.

That’s awful and really sad you had you do that. The school should have expelled the abusers. I’ve spent 34 years of my life in this country and not received racial abuse once. My best mate who was born here but dad was from the Caribbean has experienced it more times than he can count. We’ve been close mates since 11 and nearly always lived in the same place until I moved out of London. The only difference between me and him is skin colour. Born in the same hospital. Went to the same schools. Into the same pastimes. Yet he has had to put up with it and I haven’t.

At least you know you hold the power at the moment as a white man.
