There’s having an opinion then there is straight up calling one of the best footballers of his generation and possibly all time nothing but an arrogant bully and overhyped I mean come on crack head smack head whatever but the guy literally gunned for himself by starting a thread that was so obnoxious me saying you have to be a crazy smack head is not actually that harsh if you take into account a certain level of jest...let’s be honest he was an angry little man bashing his keyboard but me calling him out makes me a troublemaker? I mean seriously these are the same people who call lefties PC snowflakes but they get emotionally fragile when somebody is colourful with a response to an inflammatory opinion there’s a lot of cry babies here I’ve only been here for a week haven’t seen this many grown men cry about non issues in a while..

When we were doing the research for 'Football's Black Pioneers' my co-author and I interviewed many black players who broke into first team football in the '70s and '80s, they pretty much all spoke, in often graphic terms, of the racism they experienced in the game. They also suggested almost unanimously that it was far harder for black former players to get offered chances in management than white former players. People like Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard (I could go on) weren't required to cut their management teeth in the lower divisions. Of course, just because that's what they think doesn't make it true but the statistics do clearly suggest that something is holding black players back from getting management jobs. My money would be on institutional racism being a factor but you don't have to agree with me. I do tend to agree with something Syd said earlier that, in addition to facing the extra barriers that all the aspiring black managers face, Sol Campbell faces an additional barrier called 'being Sol Campbell'.

I understand the point that the three often mentioned white players seemed to 'walk' into top management, but to be fair they were all modern day legends (if they exist any more) and reputation talks, whether fair or not. Sol Campbell and Paul Ince, yes both major footballers of their generation, were not.

For what it is worth, having up until now not commented on the actual post, I would have Henry in my team over Rooney all day long. Football is all about opinions, if we all thought the same how boring would it be? I do stick to my opinion that you seemed unnecessarily angry though

Back in the day a senior player could not retire on their football wages so either they went into coaching or they ran a pub. Today these players do not need to work, there is plenty of media work for the photogenic and articulate so this comes back to why go into coaching? Many players make a deal with their partner that once they finish playing they will focus on the family which often comes second e.g. moving clubs / countries. A PL manager is even more time consuming and high profile than being a player as you have 25 time bombs waiting to go of. Is it any wonder that many players think no thanks.
