Gosh Painter, you really have nothing better to do than try to rile up a long term supporter? Actually try and give your take, as opposed to just criticizing others. Originally posted by Painter
Did you expect any different against Chelsea away?

When we have somebody decent they are let go - Watson, Bannan amngst others. Until we have a decent holding midfielder working in conjunction with mobile forwards we will struggle. Gallagher should help but he is not the Messiah .....

Guaita was really poor yesterday . Stood like a statue form the free kick , didn't even try to move . The second goal did not hold onto the ball , let it spill out of his hands , goal scored . If WH had done either of these in one match he would have been crucified by some on these ages , but somehow Guaita gets away with it . I would play Butland in the next game .

I have not noticed anyone suggesting that the John Moss was the best for Chelsea! As the biased commentator said Rudiger is an expert at fouling and making it look fair, probably on a par with Grealish and Ward-Prowse and as usual the referees are not good enough to call it. The majority of fouls in the first half were in Chelseas favour and having seen the Mitchell 'foul' that lead to the first goal, how does contact between the outside of his foot and the outside of Mounts foot whilst both are on the ground knock the player over holding his shin! If anything Mount stood on Mitchells foot. Comments have been made that Luka would have been stronger but I suspect that if so he would have seen Red from Mr Moss. Premier league referees are simply not good enough and the Premier League are not strong enough to stamp out the cheating.

For whats worth, my take is no point critising Vieira until the transfer window closes and he knows what he has to work with. As a club, we are on a huge curve of change and its going to take time to settle down.

Did you expect any different against Chelsea away? I asserted before the game we basically had the same players as last season. I was certainly not confident that we could get a result, but losing 3-0 on the back of a less than inspiring performance was disappointing as far as I am concerned. Mr Hodgson would have come in for some criticism had he been in charge, certainly he would have been pilloried for selecting Mateta over Benteke.

Given the choice PV would have put out a different team yesterday. Our midfield was not strong enough to cope with Chelsea, let’s see what we can take from the Brentford game next Saturday. The way I see it only Man City, Liverpool and Man Utd would have fared better against Chelsea.

I think VG has probably been our best keeper of recent seasons BUT who came up with this 'rule' that if you drop a keeper it 'destroys' their confidence ?

I think there is a general acceptance that we are on a "Curve of change" and that in a period of transition there will be bumps in the road. No supporter is expecting a "Seamless" scenario but of course there are some, like myself of course, who get disappointed after a defeat. Edited by Willo (15 Aug 2021 10.02am)

Guaita still gets my vote of confidence. Many good performances in the recent past.
