The EU will fall apart within 20 years IMHO.

The Victoria station issue has now been explained and there is no dumping people story.

I find it extraordinary that apparently if the asylum seekers convince someone at processing they have somewhere to stay with friends or family they are bailed and released.

11 who claimed they had were not collected by anyone and therefore sent to a hotel in Norwich

This was reported as what happened, perhaps Spiderman can comment.

I wonder how many of these ever appear again

I haven’t seen the story but, without wanting to be accused of defending the Government, I will try to explain the process:
Any person claiming asylum will be asked if they have family in the UK. If they have, contact will be made with the family to establish if they are willing to accommodate. If so, checks will be made and if all ok, they will be granted Temporary Admission to that address. Confirmation that collection will take place will also be confirmed. In the case of minors, the family would be expected to travel to wherever the minor is being processed ( for obvious reasons). Obviously in these cases, it was agreed to either be met at Victoria or be put on a coach to wherever ( but not minors). If, as it appears, the family do not arrive, then the person will be put back into the care of the HO.
With regard to Temporary Admission, this is not an ideal procedure but, the only alternative is detention and obviously not enough space is available. Minors who have no family are granted Temporary Admission to Social Services. Unfortunately this is how many disappear, as it is impossible to keep tabs on everyone. Anyone with an adverse immigration record or criminal record will be detained.
This appears to be the press getting half a story but deciding to elaborate for political reasons(?). I was confident I was correct, due to my experience, but if people choose to believe the press what can you do?
Regarding the CON MP, he may have spoken out too early without actually contacting the HO ( not the first and won’t be the last)
Hope this helps and doesn’t sound like I have said all this for political purposes

Neither Carney, nor anyone else, has suggested that all the economic pain that we are suffering is a result of Brexit.

He is simply telling the truth. A truth that was predicted. A truth that was accepted by the hard line Brexiteers as a cost worth paying in return for the greater benefit of our "freedom".

The real question is, excluding the hard line Brexiteers, how do the rest of us feel about it now? There were already 48% of us who didn't want to leave in the first place! How many now and what do they want? Which party is going to get their votes?

How long before a renegotiation of the Brexit agreement becomes a political issue?

If it’s just financial then take the £400 billion spent on covid and stick it back in hmgs bank. Not so bad then is it?

How would you measure the effect of Brexit including the pandemic and the war, simple, you can't, you can only guess.

Exactly I pointed this out after the referendum. Claims that the country is doing better or worse after Brexit will be pure speculation as both are moving targets. If we had not left how the economy performed would still be guesswork. Likewise if post Brexit we have a boom I am sure Remainers would be quick to point out that this would have happened anyway.

The only thing we can do is say how the economy is doing right now compared to equivalent European countries. If we are doing worse who can say that would not have been the case pre Brexit it's still a guess.

Apparently those who were not collected (11 or12) were taken to a hotel in Norwich by TAXI. Using taxis to take arrivals to their accommodation is common place, not bad for an organisation that apparently doesn’t care! Still now he knows this, I am sure CP will volunteer his taxi service free of charge!
Please do not believe they are not provided clothes or food, another media myth

You obviously cannot precisely measure the intangibles, but you can observe the tangibles, see the impact they are having and make judgements.

You can ignore them if you choose to, and convince yourself all is fine, and would either be worse if there had been no Brexit, or at least the same.

I don't and I suspect nor will most others.

Even the ardent Leavers didn't think the economy would boom after Brexit. It wasn't about that was it? It was about "taking control"! The problem is, we haven't! Brexit is a failure. It's time to accept that and do something about it.

Sure. We gave it our best shot and despite the impetus created by Covid and a world wide recession we've still failed.

No, the world has changed and you need to learn how to embrace change.

You may have opinions but the elected MPs are there and paid to decide so you must learn to live with it.

I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting that we would not still have problems if Brexit had been avoided. It's the combination of all the events, cascading one after another which has created the size of our problem.

Brexit though has contributed and made things worse, not better. The kindest thing that could be said was that it was unfortunate timing. If it had occurred during an economic upswing then Brexiteers would have claimed Brexit as the cause, and the gullible would have believed it. Now they will think the opposite. That neither might be 100% true, doesn't mean that it isn't partly true and people, and businesses can see that.

The tide has turned and I see no prospect of a reversal again.

It has, and they will.

I won't just live with it, I welcome it.

Decisions taken in 2016, in our fast changing world, are useless to solve the problems of today. You either adapt, or you get swept aside by the tide of history.

A week is a long time in anything its only 3 weeks since Truss.

Scaling back public investment in order to balance the books risks prolonging the UK’s recession and permanently weakening the economy, Rishi Sunak has been warned.

Looks like the same old failed stuff.

Border Force union joins legal action over conditions at Manston asylum centre.

The gravy thickens, as they say.
