Cardiff's Robert Earnshaw and Richard Langley had chances to score early on, while Palace's Darren Powell put his effort over the bar from Shaun Derry's knock-down.

Wayne Routledge put the home side ahead seconds before half-time with a first-time strike from 12 yards from a low cross from Danny Butterfield on the right.

Two minutes after the interval it was Neil Shipperley who doubled Palace's lead after a cross by Routledge.

Dougie Freedman headed over Butterfield's free-kick as Palace looked like adding more to the scoreline.

Willie Boland was then sent off for the Bluebirds for a rash challenge on Routledge on 53 minutes.

Seven minutes later, Graham Kavanagh pulled one back for Cardiff with a fantastic strike into the top right corner from 25 yards.

Routledge curled a shot wide, Shipperley hit the crossbar with a fancy turn inside the box and Chris Barker blocked a Freedman strike as the Eagles were on fire.

Then 80th-minute substitute Andy Campbell was sent off for the visitors for a shove on Derry in the last minute to cap a miserbale day for the Welshmen.
