The reason people don't have private tanks is because they aren't available to buy.....or maybe I'm wrong about that.

You can obtain tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, but only ones that have been decommissioned (the cannon no longer works). I'd imagine the cost of running these beasts is however a real c**t, they're not fuel efficient (in the slightest), the parts are very expensive and hard to come by, and registering them as road vehicles is going to be a nightmare.

A simple Google search would answer your own question. [Link]

Yeah they are. Ross Noble has one and so does Schwarzenegger.

Blimey....land of the free....free to buy a tank.

I take it we aren't talking about the British comedian Ross Noble.

The idea of him on top of a tank, playing 'Ride of the valkyries' attacking a neighboring farmstead is an amusing one.

Also silencers are illegal in the US, but purchase of silencer and full auto conversion kits is not (using them technically is). There are all manner of ways of getting around US gun laws.

Notably, even a semi-automatic assault rifle has a very high rate of fire, and a competent shooter could easily empty two magazines in a minute (especially if they're not limited to single shot fire).

For assault rifles, full auto fire is more to do with close range assault and defence, or suppressing fire, than shooting with accuracy.

The Super Furry Animals have a psychedelic paint job one (or did) for festival gigs.

We are. Technically it's an Abbott 443 self-propelled gun.

My only thoughts on this is what on earth happens to make someone wake up and decide today is the day they are going to do something like that?

Speechless to be honest

Being run over by a psychedelic tank would by a trippy...if still very unpleasant way to go.

Further to that, the rounds are 5.56mm not designed to go through and out, unlike 7.62mm, you get in the arm with one of them and it's good bye arm. 5.56MM are made to puncture the body and bounce around off the bone and keep going, the exit wound from the smaller round from a shot to shoulder could quite easily exit through the trunk or pelvis or even neck. Thus whilst the actual damage on the outside may seem minimal the internal injuries could well be catastrophic.

The death toll is of no surprise, fish a barrel is a callous, but none the less accurate, those weapons are accurate up to 600 meters with a decent understanding of the marksmanship principles. With a crowd packed that tightly, I doubt if he was even taking proper aim, just switched to Auto fire and pointed, your talking about a weapon that with slick loading drills can deliver between 600 and 710 rounds per minute.

So actually I'd say he was a sh1t shot and that if he wasnt that figure could have been at least double that.

At least he had the decency to kill himself the sack of sh1t.

As to the reloading part, he could've been using a drum magazine (like the Aurora movie theater shooter) that holds 400 rounds, or even a side box that belt-feeds the AR like a proper machine gun. Also, with 23 rifles in the room, reloading, clearing a jam or an overheated barrel weren't an issue; he just switched to the next gun and carried on.

The slick-loading drills you see on YouTube - mostly in defense of high-capacity mags (because...see! I can do this really fast so it doesn't matter) - are bulls***. They do it once with a mag from a speed-loader belt or somesuch. You never see them asked to do it again straight away because they can't.

The Sandy Hook shooter had 5 high-capacity banana clips (30 rounds) that he was carrying in a slung bag. In that high-stress situation, and with that set-up, he wasn't reloading with any aplomb or speed. There was at least one classroom full of kids that ran out while he was reloading, which he had to do only 5 times to get off all 150 rounds. How many more kids get away if he was limited to a 10-round magazine?

They sold it to Don Henley.

Worse, it planned it for a few days at least. Checked into the Mandalay Bay - with his arsenal - on Thursday...
