What happened when Cameron was PM is ancient history now. The world is changing fast and the EU has no choice other than to evolve and adapt or it will go extinct, as many Brexiteers seem to want. How can you not understand the Empire reference? There really is nothing to explain. We aren't either Iceland, Norway or Switzerland. We are rather bigger, with completely different economies and needs. With Trump trying to break up Nato, his unashamedly inward facing policies and the depth of the right/liberal split in the USA it would be foolish in the extreme to rely on them as our future partners. Trump himself may not be around for long but I fear the environment which created him is not going anywhere soon. I spent 2 months in the USA in 2017 and I love it there but there is no doubt in my mind that it has already peaked and that it's political system is no longer fit for purpose, depending on money and not on merit for advancement. Our place is in Europe and, like it or not, Europe means the EU.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Getting members of Nato to cough up a fair share is broadly supported in the US.

I disagree, the UK has spent most of his history outside of the any such organization. Several European countries exist and do very well outside of the EU. The EU wants the sovereignty of its member states and destruction of the nation state. It wants an army and it wants to rival the US as a superpower. I will never support that. Which makes you wonder why they did and still are increasing the population when everyone knows automization will kick in one day. No more moving to Britain to be an uber driver
No more delivery driverers with drone technology, Amazon not only can avoid uk tax but save on wages So why on earth are we importing more people??
