You don't get a deal without being genuinely prepared to leave without one.

The remainers know that and that's why their own strategy has been to weaken the government's negotiating hand.

Haven't we gone around this circle enough Mainey old boy?

As for 'machismo' not getting you deals....Errrr...Mexico just folded to Trump on illegals as did the EU fold to Trump as soon as he threatened them....that old drunk of the commission was over to Washington signing on the dotted line quicker than you could pour his next double.

I'll tell you what doesn't get you a deal....being an appeaser as May found out....Stewart would be another failure.

The UK is the third and has been the second highest EU net contributor....and May has been deeply pathetic representing that power.

Dont get me wrong here, I am not fan of May, I think she ran this whole s*** show terribly. However, in cricketing terms, dont judge the wicket until BOTH teams have had a bat.

Lets see how well the next PM does with the DUP, the ERG, Leo V and the EU negotiating teams, only then will we know if May was truly s***e or just a victim of the circumstances more than anything.

"Being an appeaser" doesnt get you deals? Appeasing is akin to compromising. I totally disagree there having led business negotiations. You dont give everything away but you had to give something away if you want to come to terms and get the other side to give something away aswell. Its a basic concept with you might recall from trading conkers as a bairn.

You 100% do not get a deal with 2 dug in sides with no compromising, that is a fact.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

In a members poll before the voting today when 4 members were still in the contest,of the 1,170 responses 62% were in favour of Johnson and 11% in favour of Hunt.Overall, Johnson is the darling of the members.

Absolutely love negotiating with people who aren't going to walk away no matter what.

It's just a matter of time before you get what you want.

Mmmmm...Compromising?....What exactly did May gain for 39 billion?

No deal is better than a bad deal, she said it herself at the beginning she just didn't have the balls to carry it out.

Thatcher got value from the EU....half of which Blair gave away for nothing.

Correct.

Anyone saying no deal isn't an option hasn't a clue.

As soon as you say "I'm not walking away from this without a deal" you get their 'deal' and nothing else.

First and most obvious rule in any negotiation whether it's over an international treaty or a cup of magic beans.

Yep, anyone with more than two brain cells knows that.

What we have is the fault of having remainers in charge.....She put a leaver in charge of negotiations and then overrided him once the EU moaned.

There are a couple of options for Johnson to take....it will be interesting to see which one he goes for.....whatever he does contains risks....but you achieve little in life without conviction.

If Hunt carries on onto the member's vote he's just wasting time and damaging his party.

Aside from coming up against Johnson's popularity, four out of five members are leavers and he voted remain.....That's an ice cube's chance in hell.

If he continues it can only be for narcissistic reasons allied to negotiating for a cabinet post.....personally I wouldn't have him in my cabinet. He's bright but that type of Tory who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.....well nothing I consider important anyway.

Maybe Remainers should try this tactic next time they buy a car. "I'm not leaving this showroom until you have sold me a car and that's my final offer".

Lots of talk today in the media about dirty tricks.

Dirty tricks in an election is where you tell lies about your opponent or expose some personally embarrassing information that the public don't need to know.

What happened yesterday was tactical voting. It happens all the time e.g. if you are a Green you may vote Labour if you think it will stop the Tories in your area.

Boris versus Gove maybe more entertaining to the rest of us as we watch them tear their party apart but if you are a Remain Tory you have no dog in that fight. At least now Remainers can rally behind Hunt although I think Boris will by a landslide.

Given a lot of the fear, uncertainty and doubt they display in their attitudes I would imagine that a lot of them do exactly that.

A salesman's wet dream.

I can't wait for the end of July as I'm intrigued to know who Boris will have in his cabinet
