Migration :

forget about countries of origin, or religion, or skill level....

we need to classify Immigrants in terms of :

- single males arriving in refugee boats

- single males & females arriving in legally. Seeking work and/or education.

- young single females , arriving in to the UK, hoping to meet the man of their dreams. Often girls from an economic backwater in a forgotten corner of Europe. Eschewing the local lads for the bright lights of London.

- males working here (arriving in), but with a wifey & kids back in a home country....to whom they mail money and are still loyal to. That describes some of my friends from Eastern Europe/Ireland/other. Hardworking but only half-committed to the UK and its society. Unlikely to be here after retirement age.

- single males who have abandoned a wife & kids back in their home country. (arriving in)

- Arranged-marriage brides, imported into the Uk at age 18,(arriving in) often with no English and unlikely to ever bother integrating with the UK public. Often travelling direct to a Northern Town with sky-high levels of unemployment. A place where everybody speaks that other language...and many struggle to speak English.

- mail-order brides for British men (arriving in).....see the experiences in the Faroe islands. See link below....

- other...please describe for us.

It is clear that there is more to economics than just money, and that Family life matters. The UK is not just a landing-strip for international finance.

migration & immigration is more than just Tax-numbers & receipts.

This thread is certainly making the case for increased immigration, and decreased elderly conservative voters.

None of us think immigrants who bring something to the table and want to assimilate in some way are an issue or it is wrong. When many come for a free lunch and/or bring nothing but a hate of the western ways is it a surprise they are not wanted. I get that a number are escaping persecution or war and yes; support them, give them love and help but don’t allow this to be taken for granted!

The only time I have threatened a tenant with eviction was on agent's advice after 6 months of unpaid rent. I had confronted him and he had made excuses about being unwell. He looked fine! We went to Court but the Judge postponed for a month because the tenant had phoned to say he could not attend as he was unwell. Another month's rent lost!

Just before the next Court date another tenant in the same building called me to say as he had not seen him for a day or so he looked through his window and could see him on the floor, and asked what he should do. Call the Police I replied. He wasn't ill. He was dead. In his 40's! He died intestate so along with the unpaid rent I also had to pay to strip out all the furniture, fumigate and redecorate. Nevertheless, I felt sorry enough about it to attend his funeral, just in case nobody else did.

So he was obviously vulnerable, but I wasn't aware of it.
