Batley and Spen , that well known Conservative heartland is now 1/4 for a Conservative win.

George Galloway is doing a great job in taking votes away from Labour and there is a huge choice of fringe candidates.

I hope Labour get pushed in to third place, unlikely but fingers crossed.

The fallout would be delicious and hopefully a panicked Labour Party reliant on a now left led UNISON would actually put Angela Rayner or similar as leader

Fingers crossed

Labour richly deserve to lose but a Tory win will only embolden the ghastly f*ckers further.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

The new leader of Unison is regarded as the least left-wing of the candidates who stood for the post. Certainly not to the liking of Messrs Corbyn and McDonnell.

I still smile at the Conservative MP who, viewing the polls, was quoted a couple of weeks ago as saying, "I'm sill trying to work out what we've got right."

I should have been more specific, the NEC rather then the leader only

The new leader, McAnea was previously a member of the communist party so not very left these days

Not clear if she will take all of the 138K plus benefits per year remuneration package.

Not particularly relevant but that's 4/5 times the average salary of the members of the union

I'm Alright Jack

Too true - turkeys voting for Christmas. The Party that overpromises and seldom delivers...except to themselves. The flip side is that with a general election 3/4 years away, what can any opposition party guarantee to deliver before then when The Government favour their own constituencies albeit providing tokenistically in the grand scheme of things?

Quite funny watching Andy Burnham playing football with kids in Batley and the Labour candidate trying to do same in flip flops.

This is as meaningless as Starmer eating fish and chips in Hartlepool

There is a by-election today taking place...

Chesham and Amersham by-election polling stations open

Should be a Tory shoe-in although some chatter out there about a rouge poll showing the Lib-Dems have closed the gap somewhat but let's see.

Is a rouge poll one that’s made up?

I’ll get me coat…

Not so rouge after all...

Chesham and Amersham by-election won by Lib Dems

Very, very interesting. Almost nobody saw this coming and certainly not by the margins involved. Would imagine a few Conservative heads at central office being banged together this morning. HS2 a factor that perhaps is being underestimated?

And Labour lose their deposit. Only a minor part of the story but still...they are meant to be the 'Offical Opposition'.

I think this was a classic by election. Credit to the Lib Dems who exploited local anger about HS2 and other government inspired environment issues.

Will this swing back at the next GE?

Anyway credit where credit is due so well done Lib Dems. As for Labour this was never their seat so I can't be too harsh on their performance.
