There are a lot of moving parts here. Wilf's wages are so high that the club's budget would not be able to support an additional high profile CF transfer amortization and salary I imagine. IMHO he should go to a Champions league team, if offered, (because he is so talented and still fiercely competitive), then there is way more latitude in the budget for new players to come in. He has been a great servant to the club, but his decision to run down the contract to see what was on the table was fair, but now is the time for the never ending saga to run its course, so Parish and Co can finance new acquisitions, and move out a couple of deadwood forwards whose wages do not justify the end results.

It is irritating but at the end of the day not his fault. He’s had the best offer Palace can make. Hopefully it came with a timescale for accepting it and we’re not waiting to see if he decides it’s a decent enough offer to stay at some vague point before the new season starts. He’s contracted to the end of the month and it would be foolish to wait beyond that for a decision if it impacts on our salary budget for other players. Indeed if we find a player to sign any time before that and it’s dependent on Wilf going I’d like to see Parish give him an ultimatum, bring it to a head, and move on.

So over this wilf sh1t Great way to talk about the guy who has kept us up for ten years. He is out of contract and perfectly entitled to do what he pleases. They are entitled to do that while his contract is still running. It ends 30th June.

The decision Wilf makes probably drives several scenarios for Parish and Co. For example, if Wilf stays with a new massive contract, then the club might decide that they can't afford the risk of a new manager falling out with him and warming the bench with his posterior ..... so that might persuade Parish to keep Roy at al as the management team for another year and aim for Paddy to take over. Might also trigger a big sale to pay for Wilf, but if he goes, then we might hold on to Olise, Guehi etc. Lots of different permutations in the mix.

The Club should have taken it out of his hands and not offered him any contract, he has been our GOAT but has been payed handsomely also, probably the richest player never to have played a European game, its time to move on, their are plenty of young options available and Wilfs 130k a week would cover it.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

When Newcastle first signed Allan Saint-Maximim he was reportedly on Circa £33k to £36k per week (plus bonuses) - Numerous Internet Sources. ….Just Saying

i think Wilf made his decision immediately after the low ball Arsenal and then Everton bids were rejected 4 years ago. I could understand his disappointment with Arsenal (however, offering only £40m and then signing Pepe instead for £72m had nothing to do with Palace), however, Everton FFS. That season he was terrible and pretty much sulked his way through every game. During the next year or so i read he had changed agents 2 or 3 times and at one point signed up with one of the 'mega' agents in order to get a move. None materialised. In the last few years he has knuckled down and his performances have improved, although he is not the player he was 5 or so years ago. I suspect the advice he was given was keep your head down, take your big salary and when you are a bosman the offers will come. I think a 2 year offer from any Champions League club is a no brainer. That Everton flirting was a real insult. f*** me Wilf, you were better then then pricks even then when they weren't in relegation battles. I think he did well to have that summer forgotten by us as I remember a lot of disdain towards him At this point, I've accepted and made my peace with him leaving this summer finally, to the point I'd be a bit disappointed if he didn't. It just feels like the right time while he can still get a club that enables him to do his thing in the CL for a few seasons before the middle East calls. I'm sure we'd find some sort of exciting replacement that won't ever quite live up to what we expect from Wilf (and that's OK) and Ebs and Olise have taken his role as the match winners. We can't put the transition off forever

I am sorry I think it is time for Wilf to go. Yes he has been a major player and to use that much over used phrase a legend but there are many reasons the time has come to say thank you but goodbye. It is madness for a club of our size and finances to pay anyone 200k per week Similarly a player whose star is definitely on the wane be offered a 4 year deal. it is unlikely he will be a first choice starter for more than the first year and then an impact sub? Extending Wilf's contract will have a number of effects Firstly it will restrict the money we can pay new recruits and hence calibre Secondly it restricts the development of our own academy players who may or may not be good enough but they need the oportunity Thirdly Any proposed Wilf replacement will not sign for us The current Wilf hasn't decided is really detrimental to our future. In my view we should withdraw our offer and start to plan for the life without him. Find a player that suits us in terms of age, talent , financial feasability and most important fit to the ethos of Crystal Palace. This may sound harsh but football is harsh. I realise that replacing Wilf is not simple but we are no longer a 1 man team. We need to plan for the future and can not stay rooted in the past. By not moving forward now all we are doing is putting off an inevitable descision for another time when suitable replacements may not be available
