Just saying that it wasn't all down to Roman. Hoddle signing Gullit changed Chelsea.

Optimistic as ever

I don't really see the point of this thread, I don't remember our chairman bragging about our youth team beating Chelsea's youth team last season but I'll take the OPs word for it.

As much as we love our academy here I don't think even die hard Palace fans would go on Chelsea boards bragging about winning a youth game.

Either way I genuinly believe our academy is better than Chelsea's. More importantly we give our young players a chance, other than Bertrand recently Chelsea cannot say the same

Actaully he did. On Sky Sports programme about the EPPP.
You set up a section on YOUR site for AWAY fans and then when an away fan gives a 'bit of banter' you dont like what you hear and then you throw insults. Quite laughable actuoually!!

Where was my insult I threw?

To be fair you haven't. My grammar wasnt the best. The second paragraph was referring generally to some on this site who have.

They cannot afford to waste time on youngsters, that's our job.

Hardly think the HUGE amount of investment that has gone on in our academy is a waste of time.
I think CPFC should be rightly proud of their academy. But I think our academy doesnt get the credit it deserves from other clubs.

Correct me if im wrong but isnt the only player to come through your academy in past 10 years thats gone on to be a proven player is JT? Mceachran and Bertrand obviously have the talent to succeed but atm dont think can be classed as a very good product yet. Im not saying chelseas academy isnt good but just saying that the reason it may not get the credit it deserves because lately it hasnt really produced anyone of note?

Also on a note to what you were saying about profit. Doesnt your profit include the winnings from the champions league?
'The figure is a significant improvement on the £67.7 million loss recorded in the 2010-11 season, and while full accounts are yet to be published, the profit reflects the financial upside of the club’s Champions League and FA Cup wins'
Not just the winnings of the champs league will come from that you would probably have made around the £1.4 million profit just on ticket sales of the first leg semi final?
With this not happening this year (granted you may go far or win the europa) surely the profit levels/turnover will go down. Especially now incorporating the huge wages of new players like Hazard. I know youve let some players go to try and make up for it but cant see the outgoing wages/transfer fees of players coming close to the wages/transfer fees of the players that have come in?

Chelski,

This video shows our clubs at their most recent lowest - and by recent I mean 1976.

[Link]

This time we won.

You almost went bust, we did about this time.

In the 50's Sunderland were the richest team in the league, before them, the best was Wolves.

Liverpool were a 2nd Division yo yo team before Shankly came along.

Tottenham and Man Utd were in the 2nd division in the 70's

All Abramovich has to do is fall out somehow with Mr Putin and you will be screwed.

The fact is that Man Utd used to be the most hated club in the country, now they are not - it is you first, Man City second. Fair or unfair, that is the case.

You coming on here is the same as me going on to Crawley Town's website bragging because we beat them at the start of the year.

1976 - two pretty much home grown teams, one from West London, one from South - we won. No dubiously gained millions to be seen - just straight forward evolution of two football clubs over a 70 odd year history.

Good luck for the future - let's hope for your sake that the 2nd division doesn't beckon for you too soon.

I'll start off your reply..............

"Oh dear"

Listed academy products earlier, but Jack Cork (Southampton) and Carlton Cole (West Ham). However accepted it could have been better BUT as I stated the players coming through now are beginning to show great promise and in large numbers (check our players on loan)

In terms of profit.Yes in those figures they incluse the Champions League TV money BUT they dont include the massive increase in sales of merchandise and the projected increased revenues from sponsors and companies. Additonally the increased TV revenue will ofset loses from Champions League early exit.

I thought that Abramovich had already moved his assets out of Russia? Maybe, I'm wrong.

Abramovich being as rich as he is ....Well, that's due to state corruption. The turning over of whole state industries. It was a crime committed against the Russian people when they, so called, went 'democratic', one of so many crimes really....Most of them are insulated against the corruption though as the press there is hardly free.

Chelsea's success is funded on the back of money that would have been criminally gained if that had happened here.

But to be fair to Chelsea it's similar to what goes on with lots of foreign cash that enters London...From the Middle east, Africa and Russia/Eastern states.

Bertrand was nicked from Gillingham.

It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Abramovich still has plenty there and is involved heavily in their World Cup bid. I believe that when he moved the money out of Russia there was currency control that meant he shouldn't have but what to do.

The Daily Telegraph is owned by a Russian - wonder why their World Cup bid was never questioned but Qatar's was?

Cant believe i forgot about Cork, seeing as I used to play against him when I was at school!! (he went to Glynn if i remember correctly). How old is carlton cole now, surely he came through nearly 15 years ago?
Ah k, tbh I dont know many of the academy players. Are they actually home grown youngsters or they ones bought in like you did a few years ago like di santo, rajkovic, piazon, kakuta, mitrovic......? Not a dig or anything but just curious? The ones above set you back a few million didnt they? (i know you sold di santo and Rajkovic for quite decent amounts btw) Any on loan in the championship (im probably being thick and not realised them other than Chalobah)

Yeah good shout with the sponsorship/merchandise etc, hadnt taken that into account. Be interested to see how the books balance with the increase in transfer spend/wages and losses of champs league money compared to the money you get in like you say with sponsorship/TV etc.

Oh dear!!!! You are so desperate to make a point you have to go back 30/50 years and discuss one game where you won. Hmmm lets look back at the 'golden' era and analyse results (even if it is irrelevant).

[Link]

In terms of financial status of clubs today compared to the 50's and 60's you must really live an alternate universe if you can compare the financial wealth of clubs today to those of the past.

One thing is certain if you look at the top richest clubs in the world today, the vast amount have been there a long time. The fact is that once you become a big club in recent history you stay big. And when I refer to a big club I refer to the top ten in the world.
