I just watched the video and reach very different conclusions. I think this is our Parliamentary committee system at it's best, exposing the failings of a Police force and holding them to account.

That people sometimes fail is an inevitability. There is a right way to deal with those failures and there is a wrong way. The right way is shown in the video, quietly and effectively. The wrong way is to try to make political capital out of it and winding up the tensions, thus making things worse and not better.

I see no influence at all from immigrant communities trying to silence investigations and would be the first to object if I did. I do though see attempts from some, Robinson being one, to exploit the situation in pursuit of a bigger agenda.

That was a nice bit of spin. The environment we live in caused the cover up of these crimes and no one deserves any credit whatsoever in that situation.

I couldn't care less about Robinson but you have proved my point nicely by highlighting his role in exposing the situation rather than saying that any reasonable person should be disgusted by the whole affair and asking why people with such a low regard for British women are even in this country to begin with.

Given exactly that point, why is Yaxley-Lennon lauded as a spokesperson. Surely there is someone that is not a criminal available to carry the torch. Perhaps points made would then have some credibility.

Robinson echoes the sentiment that regular people feel. He hasn't created it like you would like us to believe.

Once again you prove my point by highlighting Robinson and not being more concerned with the circumstances of this disgraceful affair.
Who is more of a problem in this country? Organised gangs of pakistanis raping hundreds of young girls across the country or one bloke publicly voicing his objections to the religion and culture that produced them?

So why make that previous remark ?

Especially when it was made on a post he had to exit twice.

The video is highlighting the failures and criticising the police for ignoring innocent children, they arrested the children not the rapists!! and it was people like Tommy Robinson who raised the alarm bells.

No it isn't. The video is showing how a Parliamentary committee deals with such failures. Robinson wasn't mentioned and I doubt very much whether any of the MPs on the committee would give him the time of day let alone any thanks for "raising the alarm bells".

Well call me strange but I would have thought that the overriding question would be about the kinds of people we allow into this country.

No one want to go there do they.

It's this idea that Robinson's role in "highlighting this situation" being beneficial which is so wrong.

Official investigations and the subsequent reports dealt with in a structured way is the right way to handle such failures. When dealing with highly sensitive issues like this we don't want people like Robinson throwing petrol onto a fire. We don't need headlines in the Sun and the Daily Mail designed to wind up people. We need quiet, effective, corrective action which ensures that the criminals are brought to justice, that any Police failings are found and dealt with, and that the community regains confidence in those whose job it is to protect them.

Any residual problems involving any person's, or group's, lack of respect for others has to be a long term project involving the education system and the whole community. Such issues do not disappear overnight and are not helped by those seeking to use the issues for their particular political purposes.

Have you ever been involved in the visa process?

The level of investigation that takes place is mind blowing. No doubt the level of lying from some matches it.

This is not a simple matter. No doubt you would want to ban everyone from certain countries or who hold a particular religion but we open a huge can of worms if we go down that road.

People use situations for political purposes all the time. This is nothing new.
If this was about one isolated case I would have sympathy for your interpretation but that same scenario has occurred a dozen times in different places.
The common denominator is obvious and it is most telling that some people are more interested in Robinson that facing up to the reality that we have imported a huge problem.

Life is never simple.

I won't lie and say that I'm glad we welcomed these people here. For me, this kind of policy is an accident waiting to happen.
I would favour deportation for any first or second generation criminal and that should be part of the agreement with any county that they come from.

Why should we pay to keep these people in prison when many of us didn't want them here in the first place.

We were right.

I'd actually forgotten this as the Brexit thread.

The amount of attention Robinson gets generally is ridiculous.
It helps people to deflect from the real issues. Maybe MI5 employ people to create these distractions.

Now Brexit. Have we left yet?
