So all the faux outrage aside, has anyone actually got anything to say about the spat between Khan and Trump? Anybody? Without the 'I'm friends with thousands of Muslims' and the smart @rsed 'Do you know who the mayor of Croydon is?'

I mean come on, I've brought up a genuine subject and all we get here is the usual Alf Garnett wise cracks and the pretend anger of me bringing up the fact that he's got links to extremism, and the usual twisting of what I've said (someone claiming I have a problem with him just because he's a Muslim).

I thought as sensible Palace fans we could actually talk about this without acting like little children! I don't care if he's from South London or if you've shared a platform with Muslims, I'm asking what you think about Trump Vs Khan!

I think Khan would win by KO in 4 rounds.

There isn't much to think at the moment. A bit of transatlantic name calling that has also involved Cameron.

Should Trump get elected it might have an impact but any good politician won't let a little thing like name calling get in the way

London is populated mostly by people who don't regard themselves as English......But it's meant to be an English city.

The cockney's left the east end.....More Bangladeshis there than white British now. The culture of London is more a generalised foreign mess than ever before.

Basically this country is fecked.

I was ridiculing the idea that the new mayor is linked to extremists.

You're absolutely correct but for every patriot there's a self loathing Brit who relishes every erosion of what we deem British. I really wish I'd delved deeper in to the psyche of the last bloke I encountered who held such views. Are we to bear the perpetual guilt of the Germans?

Who determines who is a patriot. Isn't it unpatriotic to discount the value of 'white middle class Liberals' - After all they're British, and its almost impossible to regard the UK and Britain, without the modernising and reforming of the UK that was the product of the white liberal middle class. Whilst we're talking about heritage etc.

The democratic process is a key element of British heritage, and there is no class more well established and defined in rise of capitalist Britain than the white middle classes - especially the white middle class liberals.

Patriotism and Nationalism cuts both ways. its not just about what you like, surely, but near universal values that can be identified as British and shared by British people, such as someone elected to office by those very people, whether you agree with them or not.

I think OP is justified in raising the point of 'white 'middle class liberal bellends' who undoubtedly were the 2nd largest group of voters, although their agenda would have been more anti-Conservative than anything else.

Because the Middle classes have such a long history of voting Labour, rather than say Conservative or Liberal. Seriously, if your a patriot and a nationalist, it doesn't matter who votes or why, only that they exercise their national right to do so, and select the most popular candidate?

Even if you voted for the other guy.

The nation is made up of bellends, f**ktards, one eyed winkers, haters, maters, idiots, asshats. That's what democracy is about, putting power into the hands of the people.

There aren't any exceptions, one mans bellend is another mans f**ktard. We're all basically c**ts.

Maybe just people have a different idea of what it is to be 'British'. I'm proud of being British and proud that we have a muslim as a mayor of London.

Some people might not even think of themselves as 'british'. English will do for some.

I think of myself as English, British and European. Heaven forbid.

So when wouldn't you be proud to be British?

That might be more enlightening.

The Britain First candidate literally turning his back on democracy when Khan was elected for a start.

Basically this country is fecked.

Its 60% white of which roughly 12% are non-British white. That's still by far the largest single ethnic denomination in London (the next closest is 6.6 which is British Indians).

So whilst that's different than the London of the past, its still a fact that the single most dominant ethnicity is White British (around 48% of London).

Now that does mean that over half of London is not White British, but then you'd need to account for the percentage of those other groups that did not regard themselves as British. I grew up around a lot of British Indians and they all regard themselves as British with ties to India and Kenya.
