Multiculturalism has worked, is working and will continue to work. It is the reason this country is one of the best places to live in the world. It means we are wealthier than we would be on our own and a damn sight more interesting as a result.

Not saying there aren't problems; sometimes very difficult ones; but if multiculturalism is so disastrous why is the USA so rich and Albania so poor?

The USA had nothing but Buffalo and "native" tribes before Europeans went there. It's just not a like for like comparison.

Agree with that whole heartedly. My gripe is that a lot of people who bang on about multiculturalism usually always live in predominantly white neighbourhoods.

Yes, just like a lot of people who bang on about Zionists live in Islington.

Conversely, three of the Worlds biggest economies, China, Japan and India, are societies which are the least multicultural in the World.

Multiculturalism has had positive effects but also has had negative. What most people's beef with multiculturalism is, and this ipfir those whom live in multicultural communities, is that this system was forced upon them, without consultation or guidance from the government, which has allowed traditional communities to die and those moving to communities from abroad have not been guided on how to respect local communities. It's a disgrace that people from completely different cultures have been told just to get on with things whilst the authorities dust their hands.

China is mostly a very poor country with parts of it very wealthy indeed. It is rich because it is huge.

The same could be sid of India except it is itself a highly multicultural country itself. A Hindu country which is also the second largest muslim country on the planet.

Japan is a fair counter and proof that no rules cover everything, though it has a level of - lets call it "discipline" that most in the west would find uncomfortable and has spent the last two decades in a state of torpor but still a fair point to make.

Most references on here are to the negative nature on here so I think continues to be fair to ask why the most diverse and multicultural place on the planet is so rich.

I presume you realize that is a nonsense response so have another go. Say taking 1900 as your starting point

Lets put some numbers on that. Immigration per year. They seem to be doing very well on the back of it.

1960–69 Immigration averaged 321k per year

1970–79 424k

1980–89 624k

1990–99 977k

2000–14 1m

India is not multicultural. Far from it. Ghettoised communities far apart from each other and with little to no interaction.

With regards China, it depends how you measure 'wealth'. Like it or not it is a wealthy country with the Worlds second largest economy. Because the wealth isn't evenly spread is irrelevant.

The richest country in the planet is Qatar. It's not multicultural there.

Saudi Arabia has an economy the size of Chicago and Qatar is off the scale - small. Tried to find a comparison but it is certainly smaller than Finland. Though that is not what you meant - your picking up on the per capita gdp which is dubious to say the least. It is that measure that allows Microsoft sales in Adelaide to count towards Irish GDP (still that is a different argument) A small country has some oil and the dictatorship there keep it to themselves. I doubt you are thinking of Qatar as a model for a European democracy

My experience of India is different to yours and it certainly hasn't held them back of late

You are making a statement and then failing to demonstrate why it is true.

The population in the West would be in decline if it were not for immigration. The birthrate fell because of the shortsightedness od politicians and is now being propped up by immigrants because of the short sightedness of politicians.
Had we encouraged people to have bigger families financially instead of the opposite we would not be in this situation in the first place.

We could fire countries at each other all night. It would get us nowhere.

My point is this: multiculturalism cannot be solely used as the reason for why the USA is a wealthy country. It is far more complex and nuanced than that. For example, the USA's natural resources, geographical location and relatively advanced colonial era society all contributed to its success.

Has multiculturalism contributed to America's success? Definately. Is America a true multicultural society: outside of the main metropolitan cities, no. Buttf*** County, Alabama is not the multicultural oasis the 5 Boroughs are.

Maybe immigration has but multiculturalism has nothing to do with it.

Understand where you are coming from but cities like NYC, Los Angeles and Chicago are multicultural and the drivers of the US economy.

Outside of a few main cities in the US, the occurrence of multiculturalism dissipate quickly.

Good point. Possibly some cities 'do' multicultural well, whereas others don't? In the UK, Bradford has done it badly. Somewhere like Bristol or London arguably has done much better.

Love it how some project the amalgamation of different creeds and cultures as some kind of new happening foisted upon us by 'an elite' and as if things were better before. There was no before. Not since well before BC anyway.

Cultures mixing - sometimes well, sometimes not so well at all - has been a constant of earth for thousands on years and will continue until humanity fades away.
