Pressure groups, lobbyists, moral outrage nutters, etc: They have had influence but never actually led via a political party. They may have had decisions made in their favour. That's it. If you have your opinions implemented it's a bit moot. Their opinions 'rule', they themselves were never set up to 'rule' a country as a group but to change the opinions of those who rule....pretty much it seems by any means necessary. They are rapidly going out of fashion and the alt right are the new fashionable lot coming along. Led by a nutty American presidential candidate and a gay media opportunist (Milo Yiannopoulos).....Though old Boris has been doing alt right for years.

It is probably fairer to say that an urban, left leaning elite have been shaping social policy in this country for nigh on two decades. Most of what they have forced upon British society, through legislation, law and the media, was not a 'grassroots' consensus (overbearing political correctness being the shining example). People like Blair, Brown, Straw, Burnham, Toynbee and Corbyn are culturally, politically and socially adrift by miles from the man in the Rochdale, Oldham, Portsmouth or Middlesbrough street, yet keep pursuing their social agenda on behalf of the mythical 'working class'. This is why this establish got walloped on June 23rd and will get walloped in the next General Election & beyond. And it is a beautiful thing to see.

I believe that Blair was socially centre left. Economically centre right. His government passed a number of socially leftish bills that no Tory government at the time would have considered, such as adopting the Human Rights Bill, Civil Partnership legislation, equalising the age of consent, aspects of the 2002 Employment Act and allowing unmarried couples to adopt.

Great post. Can be summed up by the term 'political correctness'.
