I think you can't really just reduce it to a dictatorship and the repression. There are other elements to consider beyond that. As far a revolutions and the region, the outcome has been far better than those in the region. I wouldn't say that Cuba is ideal or perfect. But in terms of third world south america its and third world dictatorship s, Cuba is probably one of the better examples. Cuba struggled later in the last century from an inability to adapt its self in line with the demise of the soviet union and returning power to the people and with its treatment of minority groups in Cuba. That said communist Cuba compares well to its third world counter parts (a some first world countries)/in terms of education levels, malnutrition, medicine and social provision

Of course. I mean let's be fair, they were under a terrible dictatorship that forced people to buy their own houses and not go on strike every other week.
