Well the defender never made much of an effort to get back as he had heard the whistle as did the goalkeeper.

This reply beggars belief, he would have had no chance of getting to Wickham and he knew it.

Clattenburg says he's criticised for giving soft penalties against Palace and simultaneously, he comes under pressure for not giving enough gifts to Man United. "So, on balance, I think I must be getting it just about right," he says.

The Manchester United Club shop now sells replica referee kits, and the ones with Clattenberg written on the back are outselling the Mike Riley shirts.

So on balance he's getting it wrong twice.

I can’t think of a game where we have had a rub of the green which he has officiated. So for him to bring the Cup Final up and admit he got it wrong takes some beating.

This was the Cup Final for Christ sakes, if you can’t get it right on days like that, you shouldn’t be in the game..

Well, guess the f*** what? Neither we we.

Personally I don’t wish he could go back and referee it again.
I wish we could go back and a decent ref could officiate it again.

I’m also horrified that this bloke is on ITVs coverage of the World Cup. Great. Pictures and someone else’s commentary for me.
I just wont be able to bring myself to listen to him, such is my level of dislike for the man.

Anyway, I thought he’d scuttled of to Saudi to earn a load of tax free dough? How does him being back in the UK for a month, earning money, sit with HMRC and his tax free Saudi salary? I thought he could only be here 20 odd days in a tax year in order to avoid UK taxes on tax free earnings?

My admiration for Clattenburg has been well documented on HOL and I stand 'Four square' by my comments about him.The fact that Collina holds him in such high esteem speaks volumes.

To prevent this disintegrating into yet another WILLO thread with brickbats hurled at not only 'Yours Truly' but Clattenburg as well, I shall refrain from getting embroiled in any debate with those who clearly have an agenda against him.

In the interests of HOL this is my last post on this thread - I shall not even bother to peruse any contributions to it.

It was never looking likely to become a Willo thread until you turned up.

Oh, and he seems to be presiding over a proper shambles over in Saudi. One ref struck off already for trying to fix a cup final - but he was only following the example set in England by his boss.

The guy is scum as far as I am concerned.

Hmmm, might be wrong but can’t find that you were mentioned. We are allowed to have negative views on a s***e ref (in my humble opinion) without needling a contribution from you.
So you admire him - well done. I personally think he’s s***e but I don’t go on every thread where he’s mentioned and advise that my views are well known so I’m commenting that I’m not commenting!
I mean really, what is the point? No one asked you nor mentioned you ffs!

I'm not a Clattenburg hater but I can see why some are. He was the ref who failed to call a foul for Jules getting punched in the face while the winner was scored at WBA. However, he was also the ref for Crystanbull, on of our most iconic matches in recent years. His recent comments about his performance in the Cup Final confirmed what I thought on the day. To me, he had a rather disgusted look on his face when he went up to receive his medal. My problem with it is he didn't seem to keep up with play and looked somewhat exhausted in the first half. There are also some who fault him for sending Dwight Gayle off against West Ham. That one I feel he got right as Gayle was playing completely out of control. It got so bad that when Clattenburg carded him the first time Gayle went off at him while the card was being explained. This is after he committed such an egregious encroachment on a penalty there was no choice but to call it and have the kick retaken.

Lately he has been a pundit over here for NBC on its Premier League studio show. That means he has to work with noted Palace supporter Rebecca Lowe.
