back on topic - I did similar about 5 years ago.

remembered how impressive this hotel was in my youth and so booked it as it was very reasonably priced for a weekend stay.

It has definitely gone massively downhill but you get what you pay for. For 1 night it was fine as I mainly booked for the location.

The people running it were just hotel people so things like the breakfast were a bit of a joke - very limited choice and a queue for toast - cooked in kitchen rather than toasters left out for self service etc.

I think you will be ok for a one off weekend but don't expect even 2 star.

good luck

Only a w***er would use the word scum in reference to people fleeing war and persecution.
Sadly we have a few w***ers amongst our support.

PS complained via the official route but didn't hear back.

PPS If using the word w***er warrants a ban then so be it.

On what evidence are the current inhabitants of the Queens Hotel fleeing war and persecution. From what I have seen they are turning it into a very undesirable hotel, the staff don't wear stab jackets for nothing ( as quoted by a policeman on here ).
There is nothing stopping you from a short stay there, then you can do a review of the hotel.

I have just remembered my visit to Southampton and can see why The Queens Hotel is the OP choice. We went into the Spoons and in my life and i have been into some s*** holes i have never seen so many people out of touch with the rest of us. They had a security guard at the door of a chaity shop. Its a real s*** hole. Queens Hotel probably sounds great and i bet SE has packed love hearts and candles, maybe a cheeky bottle of White spirits to get them in the mood for a romantic stay in SE London.

To be fair he was making sole reference to those at the hotel in question (based on his experience) not asylum seekers as a whole.

I do wonder why people are getting offended by this when if for example someone hadve said "Watford scum" about a group of fans they encountered no one would have cared.

I asked a question and I'll reserve judgment until I get an answer. I've not called him any names, not micturated about it. I just want to know the answer.

I have friends who have stayed at the Queens and it ok and cheap.the problem is noise of slamming doors and people coming and going. I have heard the Tower hotel next door is cheaper and quiter. It's a lot smaller and is good value at he price.

That's not doors, that's the sound of Phil the Greek smashing in her Maj's back doors at night, she loves it but is a right howler. Hence all the coming.

Its a lot quieter at Hampton Palace.

Please do not describe His Royal Highness as 'Phil the Greek', surely a bookable offence?

This thread surely has to go gold....

The OP asked an innocent Q? about a hotel booking he's made/want & it has turned, in true HOL fashion, into a racist/political/slanging match/yellow card fest.

BRILLIANT

This gives the impression you think asylum seekers are, collectively, scum.

Is that your view?

You don't need to put a different meaning to my post, by attempting to say I think all asylum seekers are scum.
I was quite clear, I said in a post, I speak as I see. The residents at the Queens Hotel at the time I had the misfortune to visit under the illusion, it was still the same as it used to be in the 80s, were shall we say undesirable asylum seekers, not to offend you.
Without going into details yet again, if the hotel feels the need to issue the security guards with stab vests, it is a slight indication of what to expect.
