Ah, think ahead my good man. As part-owners the proposal would be that currency union that has been going on for hundreds of years be maintained. Other countries share same currency. It wouldn't be a first. Perfectly acceptable.

No way mate....rejection cuts both ways.

The pound is the pound principally because of the south of England.

Once they leave they can stop leeching off the English and join Germany's currency.

Demographics make that almost inevitable.

Just another gift that the ideological have given us.

No one stands up for secularism.....By the way It's interesting to see secularism slowly being destroyed in Turkey....No one really cares.

Not before civil war that makes Northern Ireland look like a picnic.

Happy times to come for our future generations.

Is that the same South of England that get's the biggest (or second biggest) subsidy per head of population in the whole of the UK?

Scotland can have a good future IMO but not as an unequal partner in a subservient relationship to Westminster.

Depends what you mean by 'south'. A fifth of the income earned in London is used to fund the rest of the country.

England's main cities are the economic powerhouse of the union.

People do care, it's the government that don't give a toss. There have been 2 Westminster hall debates where people from across the political spectrum have come together to try and get the govt to impose sanctions on turkey or at least openly criticise because of the treatment of the 100,00 public sector workers imprisoned or purged, or the complete shutdown of the free press, the arresting of opposition politicians including the party leaders based on trumped up charges of links to the YPK. The referendum next month will turn Turkey in to an autocratic Islamist dictatorship and its like watching Iran all over again. A wonderful country is losing its way. This is a referendum where the word no is banned, no smoking signed have been changed to say please avoid smoking and meetings of no voters are banned as incitement to riot.

The Minister responded to all this concern in both debates basically saying, 'Turkey is our friend and we have just signed a new deal to build their fighter jets, its fine'

The government don't care. Don't believe me, check Hansard. Soon enough it will go in to a debate in the Commons itself and when it does it will be way too late but at least you can see for yourself how little sh*t the government give.

Perhaps but not a future with the same standard of living.

Yep - I was meaning London and the south-east, specifically. I've mentioned it before on here plenty of times. Those that dispute it always end up with their tails between their legs. You have been warned

Yes, but the thing that tends to make Northern Ireland look 'a bit tame' is the population size. If the troubles had been in a nation the size of the US, it would have resulted in around 600,000 deaths (scaling by population figures only).

Northern Ireland is hopefully a spectre laid to rest. And whilst some terrible people have some credit in that, the real factor is the people of Northern Ireland who've shifted away from the artificial divides and driven progress.

Its likely that the generations of kids (and their kids) who grew up on both sides of the divide, were at least as important as any Adams, Paisley or McGuiness.

We tend to forget them when it comes to NI.

The important thing for Scotland is to be free from us.

Economies bounce back may not be bad anyway.
