My thinking may well be flawed in some minds, but not in those with both eyes and ears open and at least half a brain able to discern truth from lies.

Trump is, in my opinion, by far the worst President of my lifetime. And that list includes Nixon, who was a shining beacon of honest endeavour in comparison. Many in the USA who possess a greater knowledge of all the past Presidents than me, consider him the worst ever. So to simply dismiss the media criticism of him as tribal politics is to totally miss the point. This man is an exception and exceptional men deserve exceptional treatment. Which is why he is getting it.

I am used to the lack of objectivity in the Trump support base in the USA, having had many exchanges with them over the years, which continue until today.

It is always though disappointing to witness it here as we are generally much better than that.

To see the term "TDS" used in a recent post (not by yourself) is an example of that. The term, which in case anyone is unfamiliar is meant to be short for "Trump Derangement Syndrome" and is intended as an insult to those who criticise him. It's the standard Trump modus operandi. Never answer criticism. Attack the attacker. Counter sue those who sue as we have more money and better lawyers. He learned it from Roy Cohn and has employed it ever since. His supporters, like the good sycophantic sheep they are, parrot it endlessly. To see it here though is really disappointing. Especially as the term is actually defined in the "Urban Dictionary" as:-

"Trump Derangement Syndrome, is the unwavering adoration and devotion to a political leader, beginning with Donald Trump the namesake of the disorder, extending to other forms of leadership including presidents and rulers typically of a fascist or populist nature. While the name is meant to have pejorative connotations the actual condition is characterized primarily by behaviors found in "cult of leader" or "cult of personality" scenarios."

As the term doesn't appear to have made it into the major dictionaries that will have to do.

Good luck finding too many of those on this ere website!

I remember Trump saying we would defeat Coronavirus by not letting 50 odd people off a cruise ship a few months back.

Once a t***, always a t***, and Trump is a king t***.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

Ok, if you're going to go that far on Trump....lets look at who leads the party you support.

I remember Biden saying that stopping flights was ‘xenophobic'.

You will be supporting a guy who sniffs children's hair and makes women uncomfortable and like Trump also has accusations against him (though I don't believe them).

But by the Democrat's own logic, they must 'believe all women'....Weird eh...how suddenly they want to talk about nuance.

A guy who has lied through his teeth all through his political career...couldn't even get his president's backing during the candidate selection and who is now suffering from obvious mental decline.

The Democrats are down in the gutter with the rest of them....except that they pretend they aren't.

There's always the hope that a sudden flash of realisation may sweep across an otherwise barren space, although I suspect pride won't allow any admissions.

I have been having a long dialogue with one of my American friends, who is as typical a Trump supporter as it's possible to imagine. He keeps sending me videos with "information" about the virus, vaccination evils, Bill Gates and George Soros's involvement in a new world order, the deep state, etc etc. You get the picture! I politely knock each one down for the obvious conspiracy theories they are, countering with science and verifiable facts. He just rejects them all and says he believes what he believes and trusts those who feed him this stuff. Nevertheless, I sense a weakening of his conviction as I don't think too many in his circle do anything other than watch Fox and InfoWars and then spread their disinformation amongst themselves. So when someone offers a counter view, who isn't from the MSM who they have been taught to hate, it has an impact.

That’s the trouble with opinions. They tend to differ.

Of course.

Not all opinions are equal though are they?

Some are based on fact, and some on theory.

When those whose opinions are based on theory start to influence those who hold the levers of power we risk entering a dark and dangerous place.

What is even worse is when those who hold the levers of power actively encourage belief in opinions based on theory. Which is what is happening now.

Which political opinions aren’t based on theory?

Are you including brexit in that last bit. No theory going on there now.

Irrelevant as they aren't what's being discussed.

What's being discussed are conspiracy theories in which opinions are treated as facts.

I wasn't but in the 3 years that led up to our withdrawal, there was quite a lot of theories involved.

Right because you said not all opinions are equal not all opinions about conspiracy theories aren’t equal. So all other opinions are equal.
