I think it's fair to say that the Corbyn and Chevez situation differ insomuch as the Labour party....well....the Labour party at present...isn't quite the cheer leading tool that Chevez's party was. I have a lot more to say on this but not a lot of time... But i'll make one more point. To those who seem so keenly aware of Venezuela's political situation, tell me what's happening at the moment in Bolivia. Or Paraguay. Or Argentina. Or Ecuador, Uruguay, Mexico? Why do you think it is that since Chavez came to power, there has been such a fixation on goings on in Venezuela, and such a desire from so many to parade its inadequacies, even when for many years it was a stable, prosperous and developing country?

We are now seeing that all to familiar end result of socialism, a violent crack down by a totalitarian regime result in mass death. This is precisely why socialism should remain in the 'nice idea but totally unworkable' category of politics and should be rejected by any sensible person.

But I haven little doubt that what he would like to see is an institution answerable to ministers, rather than investors, handing out taxpayers' money on a large scale to businesses and industries that no responsible bank would touch with a barge pole.

Inflation is at 720% and it is expected to rise to over 2,000% next year. The opposition leader has been banned from politics for 15 years. Attempt by government to remove opposition led congresses powers. Government seeking ability to rewrite constitution at its fancy. A three year economic crisis with no signs of ending. Withdrawing from regional governance bodies because neighbouring countries have criticised the crisis. This is socialism and this is the reality of Venezuela. Only those possessing 'myopic nativity' (and/or WUM trolls, the two terms aren't exclusive) would deny the truth.

Fair comment, but it doesn't detract from my point that the whole reason for having a national investment bank, coop bank, or whatever you want to call it is to use taxpayers' money to finance or bail out businesses that no commercial lender or investor would touch.

You quoted my post, but didn't actually engage with it in any way. Imagine if we started a thread for every free market nationalist nation that's f*cked. Russia? Turkey? Dare i say the US? Not to mention nearly every country in Africa. Do they symbolise the inherent issue with Capitalism too? If not, then i suggest we stop discussing Venezuela as a proxy for what's going on in this country. Because that's what all this is really about. None of you actually give a s*** about Venezuelans, if you did you would spend time trying yo learn about South American culture and history, which you clearly haven't.
